Look What I got Today

Hi Andyp, i hope you have'nt ordered it from where i think you have (major UK online retailer) as there is a very long thread over at the PCPro forums about them and not one thing is good. I was going to order one until i read that thread but rapidly changed my mind. Also note that it has said 1-2 weeks now for over a month and when i emailed them about expected delivery twice they never even bothered replying.

Hope you paid by credit card.

Pastymuncher - thanks for the heads-up!

Could you email me (in trust) with a few elaborations, i know certain things can't be discussed on here and there's a twist in the tale already regarding this!

Cheers,

Andy.

I thought the fastest s754 was 3700+, but that wasn't mobile. Are these mobile chips the same hieight? (can i use the same heatsink as i have on my normal s754?).

I beleive they are the same height but Meths is the best one to tell you. They are indeed 2.6Ghz and are the fastest 754 mobile chip that you can buy. As i have already said though i would certainly think again if the one place in the UK that has them advertised is the same retailer that i am thinking of and have heard so much negative feedback about them.

Maybe OCUK could get them in as there seems to be the demand for them. Don't they have a product suggestion link somewhere?

They don't have a IHS so are lower profile and you may need to mod your socket to attach a heatsink that isn't screw down.

Also although the memory controller on the chip can handle 2gb of ram it's difficult to achieve stable settings with an fsb over around 230.

With only 1gb of ram installed I've seen people posting cpu-z screens with fsb's over 280 and clock speeds of around 3.3ghz but whether these are stable or not (8hrs+ of prime 95 blend) I don't know.

Many people are running at 3.2ghz unstable without any issues but I don't like running a potentially unstable system so I'm currently at 2.9ghz using my 2gb ram.

I'll get the magic 3.0ghz eventually. ;)

Edited due to remedial spelling errors

Cheer's Meths i did'nt know that.

I have to agree with you about stability. I would rather be stable at 2.9 than have an unstable 3.2 and a pc that keeps crashing all the time.
