Look what I just bought (pics)!! - UPDATED

Howdy,

I'm sure some of you are aware I was awaiting (anxiously) the new Mac Pros to be released (hence the sig.. which will change). Well I thought I'd give Apple Stroe bluewater a ring today to see WHEN they where getting any in... low and behold, they had 3 in! So I jumped in the motor and went straight down there to grab one... Im not £1749 lighter, but what can ya do

Heres two pics... sorry the second is a bit shaky... I had to take non-flash picture!

ACD? Everything is abbreviated these days, whats that? Cinema Display maybe?

Two reasons, I only got my 30" Dell 3007 a few months back, and also, I hear the cinema displays will be getting updated soon (with built in iSights?!?!) so I wouldn't buy one til then if that was the case.

There is another reason, I do have a bit of dough, but not that much, cos I would HAVE to go the 30" one!

Want to buy me one aswell? :p

Already bought you one, its in the post :)

Yeah I want to rip it out the box, but I need to make room for it, plus I am still using my Vista machine most of the time at the mo (sorry!) so I need to move files aswell. Got so much to do, so gonna do it over the weekend... plus I gotta setup my new wireless router (on wired at mo) so I can use the wireless for my MBP. Gonna be busy!

I have opened the box though, cos I wanted to double check that the new Mac Pros come with the new keyboard... and they do

But I'm still to remove the actual machine... so happy they didnt update the design of it, cos I think the Mac PRos are beautiful machines!

Don't forget to take pics when it's unboxed. :)

I sure will!

These benchmarks against the last Mac Pro might prove good reading for you keogh! :D

My iMac had a GeekBench32 score of 3861!

Yeah I had a butchers at that EVH, was quite happy with those benchmarks tbh!

I still haven't removed it out of the box, I've not even looked at the machine yet... could be a G4 for all I know :) The reason I havent taken it out is cos I will want to set it all up, and thats gonna take ages, and once I start I wont stop til its done. So I'm leaving it til tomo evening :)

Also, for those thinking of getting a Mac Pro... you could go to your local Apple store, as they might have them in like mine did. But, not sure if it means anything, but my Mac Pro says it was "Assembled in Ireland" therefore, if you order it online, you might get it in a few days, opposed to a few weeks?

I'll add the unboxing pics to the thread opener when I have unboxed it, so watch this space if you are interested!

I've taken it out of its box and chucked a few more images at the top!

Wow its a beauty of a machine... weighs a fair bit too :)

I'd be interested on knowing that too.

I'm afraid its not for anything crazy! I do some video editing etc, but not much, I just got it for my everyday machine.

I work from home building websites all day every day. I wanted the best mac I could get (not incl custom builds) and the mac pro was the best.

1. Mac Mini - too weak
2. MacBook - too weak
3. Macbook Pro - powerful enough, but too noisy. Just booting up VMWare (needed to test sites in IE) and Photoshop makes the fans go crazy. Also, doing everyday work on a laptop isnt right imo
4. iMac - Lumbered with a 24" screen and no upgrades. I got a 30" and I intend to use it

That leaves the Mac Pro. Super fast, VERY VERY quiet (you have to hear it... if you know what I mean to belive it). And I always wanted a Mac Pro, have the cash, so waited for these new ones and voila!

So thats it really :)

p.s. Not got it for gaming at all... although Id love to chuck my 8800GTX in and test Crysis... which I will one day.

i can't believe that for £1700 they've lumbered you with a £60 graphics card!

I don't care, thats the thing I was least worried about, its not a gaming machine for me.

I get 8 cores, 2gb of reasonable pace ram and OS X all wrapped up in the beautiful Mac Pro casing!

I wouldn;t exchange it for any crummy PC out there, and I mean ANY!.. Well, unless I could flog it and with the money buy the Mac Pro again and have extra cash :)

what's the noise like on one of these mean machines?? PC towers are generally quite noisy, with mac notebooks being near silent are there towers silent too?

You can't hear it mate... its VERY quiet! Even when the fans kick in, its bearly audiable! Better than any pc Im sure of that!

i understand that, for your usage, a HD2600 is completely fine, but i'd still at least expect an HD 2900 or something better for that price.

but hey, you've got 8 cores, go do something awesome! :D

Also I think the price of Mac Pros is pretty good. I mean, yes the graphics card is a bit pony, but you get all that other stuff, plus the quality of apple, OS X iLife and a keyboard and mouse... all for that dough.

A similar spec pc (although I've never seen a 8 core pc yet... but maybe thats me) would cost no less I don't think, and pc builds are quyite naff compared to Apple.

So imo the Mac Pros are well priced!

Congratulations :)

I've had mine since July and it's probably the best piece of hardware I've ever bought :)

Heavy buggers aren't they? :p

Wait till you open the side, it just ooozes quality! Have fun :)

Been there already my friend, chucked a new HDD in it. I agree 100%, the insides are nearly better than the outside, so organised and easy to manage. The inside of my PC is all over the shop :)

Long live Apple Mac Pro's!

You suck keogh. My want for a Mac Pro grows with your every post!!

Post some more pictures or i'm adding you to my ignore list ;)

Hmm I'm too busy using it constantly, you just can't leave the things alone when you have them. I'm soooo happy I have it, its the best thing in the whole wide world and nothing competes with it!... sorry thats not what you want to hear is it ;)

I'll try and get some internal shots when I get a bit of time, I have it in a enclosure with all the wires hidden down the back neatly, so getting it out for more images might be tricky, but I'll try my best!

Doesnt run hot at all, I've taken the side off whilst its been running, and its very cool in there... Apple designed it so it was cool, and it realyl is.

You cant hear the fans at all either, and it runs Windows in Boot Camp just like any PC!

You'd prob be waiting a year if you are waiting for the next upgrade, took them over a year to upgrade to this one, so don't bother waiting for an upgrade!

I'd personally get a Apple Cinema Display instead of a Dell, I got the 3007 mainly for my PC, but if I knew I was buying a Mac Pro at the time I would have got for the Cinema Display cos it would look soooo much better with the Mac.

But I wouldnt get a Cinema Display now though, cos I think they are updating these soon and putting iSights in there... Don't quote me on that though.

You won't regret getting a Mac Pro!!

I spec'd up a similar spec Dell to a Mac pro the other day and I was shocked. :)

Sure, you get a 'free' monitor with the Dell, but you could buy a bigger one for the price gap.

And you get OS X with a Mac Pro... and you can still run WIndows on it if you want. Yeah you can run OS X on a pc, but illegally!

Bootcamp, that way --->

I'm gonna chuck my 8800GTX in my mac pro soon, but I need the PCI-E power cable, and they are like gold dust to get in the UK. I think ive found a place though, the guy is gonna order some in, just waiting on his reply, then my 8800GTX will go into my Mac pro and ill have:

8 Core Penryn
6GB 800MHz Ram
8800GTX

Crysis here I come!!!

Its one of those... prob not allowed to post that link, but its a yankie site so it shouldnt matter!

Its the generic graphics card power lead (you will have two in your GTX) but the other end is a Apple design, and it plugs into the Mac Pro motherboard. You could use your PC PSU and sit that next to ya mac pro and power it that way if you want, but thats a little untidy for my liking :) So Im gonna get me two of those!

I'm gonna sell up my new PC and take the plunge. :o

Will have to wait about a month to get everything sorted. I very excite! :D

Good decision, you wont regret... fantastic piece of kit! The Mac Pro is so much better built than any PC I've ever had/used, it just feels right, and not just bunged together!

Outta curiosity, you planning on using OS X or Windows? Either are just as stable as each other on Leopard/Boot Camp!
