My current rig, I DO NOT EVER game on the PC , hence the obviously poor graphics card ( and it keeps noise down), this has been running okay for a long time now but its time to move on up, as well as getting into bigger graphic projects and HD video editing ( its stuttering a bit now as you can imagine) that and music programmes seem to be sucking up more CPU power these days.

So here is my list, its more of a " what can I take from this, if anything ( thinking the HDDs are still fine though, though will want another TB+ drive), and another SSD for programmes, or is it THAT much of a difference to move W8 to a newer faster SSD ( the Intel one is still in very good health).

And, of course..what to replace it with, need a decent GPU, though again not for gaming spec, but HD video I suppose it challenging enough, thinking i5 CPU and decent mother board, and new case.

Current spec.
Spec

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.20GHz
Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H AMD 880G (Socket AM3) microATX DDR3*
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache x2
Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive*
G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel*
Sapphire HD 6570 Ultimate Edition 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express SILENT*
OcUK Battle 450W Dual Rail High Efficiency Modular '80 Plus' Power Supply

That power supply will need changing. At least get something budget like a Corsair CX if you want to keep the cost down.

nvidia titan? ;)
not for gaming, it wasn't released as a gaming card :)
you need to change the psu asap, cpu to something like the 6xxx(6300) or 8xxx(e.g 8320) cpu but no idea if your mb is compatible.

lol, that might be a little OTT.
Had about £700 to spend though for any suggestions.
The current spec thing was more a of a "if it can be harvested to use in the new system" thing.

well in that case would say the cpu, mb and psu to be changed can reuse the rest, well I'm not the one to ask but ram maybe worth changing to 16gb if your programs use a lot of ram or something but it's currently expensive.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel 4930K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - Retail (BX80633I74930K) £439.99
1 x Asus Rampage IV Formula Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard £263.99
1 x Be Quiet Power Zone 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Fully Modular Power Supply £79.99
Total : £783.97 (includes shipping : FREE).

something like that maybe, overbudget but can go for a cheaper motherboard. oh will need a cooler as 2011 cpu don't come with a cooler.
can save more money by going amd and 8320 but where would the fun be in that :p

^ no point wasting so much money on those components.

How big are your projects? Are you rendering huge files?
I think a simple 4320k with a Gigabyte board would be a lot more sensible.

If you never game, you wouldn't need to change the graphics card at all. The only reason to get another one would be if you used certain software that leverages CUDA or something like that.

You could keep everything from your current build and just upgrade the CPU, motherboard and PSU. Maybe get another 8GB memory kit since if you're doing sample-heavy DAW work it could get chewed up fast.

Like fowler said, 4930k is pretty much king for encoding/CPU work without being silly money.
