Looking at downgrading from 8800GTX

Nah I would go with an 8800GTS 320mb at least, they are very cheap, especially second hand :)

Yeah but he can get a brand new x1950pro for under a ton, or an XT for just over, not like he's missing anything by not getting a GTS as theres no games, x1950pro/XT will last ages yet due to that fact, theres only Bioshock in about 3x weeks which a pro/XT will run well, then its nowt till around the end of the year when theres a couple more games released, and also some new cards which will push 8800 prices down. :)

Funnily enough, I've been debating the same thing, I know I should go for a 8800gts (as an upgrade from an x1800xt), but am still very tempted by an x1950xt for just over £100 which will play everything that's around now & for a while yet.

In six months time you could then go for the 8800gts when it's a bit cheaper (or the new latest 'must have bargain card' ;) ) and play all the dx10 games when it's sorted.

Interested to see what you do, as a step from an 8800gtx is even harder than from an x1800xt
