as title really

im quite interested in the FUJI FinePix S9600. 100 - 1600 ISO, 1/4000 to 30seconds shutter, 9 megapixel, and CCD RAW

and whats more uses 4 AA and compact flash so i can re-use my existing bits with it.

specs seem close to that of the 350D, but without all the flexibility of interchangeable lenses etc..

worth a buy for £250 as DSLRs seem to for nearer £400 with lens etc. ?

and crucially

anything else i should be looking at ?

For a bridge type camera (and based on reviews i have seen) nothing comes close or could be recommended over the 9600.

fuji s6500. Uses the same 6MP sensor as the f30 so better high iso, as long as you shoot raw. No hotshoe or flip screen though. Look at both and see which suits you best. Panasonic fz50 is supposed to be good but more expensive and noisy at higher iso but does have is.

You can get an adaptor for the S9600 which will enable the fitting of macro, telefoto and wide angle lens'.
Do a search for Raynor DCR-250 Makro on a popular website.

Surely if your looking to get additional lenses, it would make sense just to get a DSLR? The whole point of a bridge camera is to have all the functions of a dslr and 3 lens, but sacrificing IQ and noise handling.

tbh i wouldnt bother with the additional lenses

£250 is a bit steep as it is

so id just settle for the one it comes with.

before you buy the 9600 have a feel of it i was in a shop today looking at one and it felt really plasticy and cheap, you could try the canon s3 is or the new sony dsc-h7/9 which is due soon

Hmmm me on the other hand thought it was well build and gives the feel of quality, this is fujifilm we are talking about here. :) Like you mentioned, the OP should try it out in the shops.

panasonic lumix and nice to try out
quality piece of kit
the canon S3 IS looks the business, but low MP
am more impressed with the fuji since I saw some results from a friends 6500
