I am looking at a new gaming laptop and note that the new AMD ryzen models are faster than the Intel versions

I probably want a QHD screen which may take some of the AMD advantage off the table

What I don't know however is what I will lose out on if a go AMD and lose thunderbolt connections.

My current gaming laptop is plugged into my TV

What are the benefits of thunderbolt ports

Side note, are we ruling out Intel processors atm then on laptops?

You just dont get the performance from them? How come they are that far behind, or is it a case of their comparable CPU to say a Ryzen 7 5800H is just way more expensive so you are losing out in that sense.

Intel is fine for gaming, they are just overpriced, run too hot and don’t perform as well as AMD in multi-core productivity tasks.

Thanks, so as someone who will solely game i shouldnt rule them out? I mean a decent one wont kill my fps etc? As long as i pair it with a decent 3070?

Opens up more options for me.

If your main focus is gaming, then I think they are still an option. Just make sure you get a laptop with good thermal performance because Intel chips run hot. E.g. GE66.

11th gen Intel is expected around May/ June though, so if you’re going Intel you may want to wait. There should be more AMD options by then as well.

A gaming intel system with 10th or 11th gen 6-core CPU will be vastly inferior in multi-core performance compared to Ryzen 7 or 9 variants. Single core, the 11th gen may edge it but you have to remember Intel are still on an ancient 14nm process but have just improved efficiency of their nodes and bumped up clock speeds. Your laptop will run as hot as a nuclear warhead unless it has staggeringly good thermals and will most likely throttle down anyway. With Ryzen 7 and 9 laptop CPUs you see fairly consistent, non-throttled performance. Intel is essentially massively overpriced for what you get (which is worse than what AMD are offering most of the time).

At this point, the only reason I'd buy an Intel high end gaming laptop is because you basically can't find Ryzen systems to buy. They are sold out everywhere. Thunderbolt 3/4 is massively overrated.
