Hi guys, I am in the market for a new hobby, and photography is no.1 on my list, so after a starting camera with a budget of about £250.

What do you guys reckon I should get? Or is it a case of save up for a month or two, then get one?

Thanks,
Kris

I did this a couple of months back, and picked up a D3100 with the 18-55mm kit lens (£399). Since purchased 35mm 1.8 and 50-200 4-5.6 zoom.

Nikon are/were doing cash back deals which reduces the price somewhat. You're prob best to save a little more though.

Hmmm, I was thinking I would have to save a little, no worries, just that I have a week off work next week and wanted to pick up something cheap to do then.

Will keep my eye out for bargains! :-)

Well what I mean is, I have £250 to spend now, but if I save, I will have more =]

Trying to cancel my new tv stand I ordered, which will take me up to £450, so that is much better =]

Any ideas on that budget?

You can get a 2nd hand camera for £250, find out if you enjoy it before doing the same mistake most 'hobbiest' do. Buy a big expensive camera thinking they can get great result and then having to buy bigger and better lens and still not achieving the results they desire and end up selling the camera.

just my pet hate

Maybe a Canon 550d body (£408 after cashback. Has to be purchased by 5th June). You could then grab a 50mm f1.8 lens after that for around £75.

Well, I took the plunge and bought a Nikon D60, but it is just the body, as I can "borrow" AF-S lenses off my other half until I buy one or two of my own =]

I travel to a lot of nice looking places (Mid Wales, Brecon Beacons etc) with my job, so will probs take a lot of landscape shots.

As Schizophonic said, it will give me a chance to get in to it, without spending loads of money (got for £160, second hand with 6,000 exposures)

Will no doubt post photos up soon enough! =]
