Looking at upgrading. Should I go the extra mile for an i7 bundle? what will be the benefits.

The bundles i'm looking at are

All clock in at 4.4ghz and have 16gb of ram.

I'm still hung up on whether to go for the whole quad channel ram setup or dual channel?

Or can you guys recommend me any other bundle upto the £700 mark?

I will essentially be gaming.

Now i don't mind spending the extra 200-300 cash. But what will the benefits be?

Sorry little out of the whole processor game not upgraded for 3 years.

Got a vertex 4 128gb SSD on order too and gonna get a 6gbps 1-2tb hard drive for it.

If your gaming with single or dual cards then go for the 1155 with 3570k, but if you plan on tri sli or crossfire the x79 based sytsem would be more beneficial.

if you know how to overclock and build your own rig, i'd say you should do it. you're paying a premium of c100 quid for ocuk to do it for you when you can use that $$$ for other upgrades

Yeah I guess i'm just being lazy. Had some messing getting my overclock stable back when I did it a few years back. Didn't realise it was as much as £100 saved. Think i'll get the bits myself and do it.

Just wondering do you think my coolermaster v8 cooler would still be good enough for this generation of chips? - that could be money saved.

its probably not 100 quid that was a guesstimate ;p probably about 60-80 quid, but that's still a hefty sum to pay if you have the know how to diy

yup that cooler should do fine, as long as you can find the retention bracket for lga1155

Hi there,

Unless you are doing some very CPU/memory intensive task such a video rendering, encoding, crunching, folding etc. I would recommend the first Z77 set up, as during 90% of applications there will be no noticeable power difference. Z77 is set up perfectly for gaming, X79 makes hardly any difference to performance in this aspect.

I'd use the extra £200-£300 cash you have to get a better GPU, which will make more difference to gaming performance than quad channel and X79.
