I'm looking for 2 laptops, I have no idea about cheap Laptops so I'm looking to you guys for some help. Obviously you can't mention competitors so the name of the laptop will surfice.

Laptop 1 is for my son who likes to play Counterstrike source at high settings and COD4 at medium settings and appart from a little web surfing thats all it will be used for. His budget is £450 max

Laptop 2 is for my parents and all they want to do is surf, view photo's and that sort of thing. There budget is £300 Max

Thanks Chaps :)

Laptop 1 - Dell Vostro / Acer / Toshiba Qosimo etc.
Laptop 2 - Best bet is to take them into purple shirt land or somewhere similar, and ask them which one they like the look of. This is because basically everything out there can surf the web, view photos etc so style would only be the deciding factor I'm guessing.

For the first one, £450 unfortunately doesn't get you anything with a particularly powerful graphics chipset. The Dell Studio 15 for £429 has the Radeon 3450 which, as a low-end chipset, produces decent results. Certainly better than the Intel X3100 found in most notebooks of this pricerange. Also comes with 2GB of RAM, 160GB HDD and a Pentium Dual Core 2GHz.

For system two, there's the Dell Inspiron 1525 for £329. Little bit over budget, but if you were to order both these machines from Dell, I'm fairly sure you'd be able to barter the price down, or at least get the RAM upgraded from 1GB to 2GB, which will make Vista Home Premium far smoother to use.

The other one I've just spotted is the Packard Bell MX37-S-200, it's a 1.73GHz Celeron Dual Core, as opposed to the 2GHz Celeron (single core) in the Dell. Smaller HDD and Vista Home Basic though, but its £300 on the dot.
