Hi guys,

I've been thinking about getting a new monitor to replace my 19" Viewsonic VX922.

At the moment i am very tempted by the LG L226WTQ.

I like the look of the Samsungs but have been put off slightly by the S or A panel thing. Although i am a little unsure if this is as big of a deal as is made out to be?

Any other 22" widescreens i should be considering? Or a better one than the LG?

Thanks. :)

ITS A VERY BIG DEAL if you get a dodgy (r) cmo screen assembled in slovakia
I wouldn't want anything electrical built in slovakia they are barely considered a stable country and i am sure the staff get paid dreadfully low wages and just don't care or take any pride in their work and who can blame them on £10 a week
Specs are 160/160 viewing angles but i can assure you the one i have cannot be any more than 90/90 even a slight shift of my head changes things. Please get an S-IPS or Spva panel any of the 22" would be a downgrade from your 2ms best performing gaming monitor.Save the extra and get an SPVA 24" or 20 " SIPS panel such as the dell 2007wfp.Speaking from personal 226bw experience it's going back, stuck pixels in center, tearing even with vsync on worse viewing angles than a 17" acer downstairs.Too bright even with contrast and brightness at zero.
If you can't wait i would say the hewlett packard w2207 is easily the best of a bad bunch as it has a monitor arm which is what £30 these days so at around £220 best value.

These are the monitors you should be looking at

The LG i hear is a very good monitor and presently a good deal in a local computer shop in Manchester for £190. Reviews have been excellent along with the fast response time. Secondly LG have been making monitors for ages and certainly contribute to a lot of other brands...im thinking of the LG also as i was looking at the Samsung, and Dell but im going for the LG!

Hmm, i thought the LG would be a fine monitor going by their rep for making TV's.....

I have the LG, it's frankly superb for the price. No visible ghosting, calibrates well and easily thanks to the bundled calibration software actually being pretty darned good, and you can disable the silly power LED.

Generally I can't fault it one bit.

The LG is no better compared with a CMO 226BW. i have had both. the cmo although not as good as the sammy panel is better than the LG. But both suck imho. WHat C64 says.

As far as i was aware LG had a bad rep for making TV's. I spent a long time looking through all the 42" plasmas going on reps and i ended up getting the pioneer... which just happened to be the most expensive 42" plasma around lol. Many people said dont get LGs, one of my friends blew up :|

Really? Ok, fair enough, well this is why i am asking, As i need advice from the guys in the know. :)

So Should i get the 24" Dell then? Maybe i'll need a GTX too.....:D

Look at it this way you will have a monitor far longer than any graphics card probably i may get a 24" spva but keep the 640mb gts until the next generation of cards which are less than £300 and won't struggle at the screens native res.
You only need the gtx if you want to max future games out and even then some games will bring a gtx to it's knees.

if you plan to play crysis for example at 1920 you need a GTX. but you can always scale down to 1680. i will see what my 320GTS do with the LG24 i got and tell ya

Hmm, the more i think about it the 24" does sound appealing! :D

Will have a think about it, i wanted a Q6600 too......This could get expensive!

So the other monitors are not so good then? Is there a obvious visable difference between a tn , Spva or s-ips? :)

Because just moving your head slightly changes the way the way the screen looks contrast and color, this isn't too bad if the viewing angles are truly 150+ but most manufacturers lie about the viewing angles only one i have seen that doesn't is acer.Have one downstairs and the viewing angles are better than the 226bw i bought the acer is 150/150 the 226bw is "supposedly"160/160 which of course is obviously an extreme over estimate if the acer beats it.
