Well i have decided i want two monitors, i currently have an asus VN247h (1080p) with a super slim bezel, now do i go for a 1440p as a main monitor or get the same monitor ? Im running a 970 want to get the second monitor to run my game server console whilst playing and teamspeak etc. i really want to keep it looking the same as possible (slim bezel) but happy to go bigger. Really unsure. What do you do / not do given the chance again. Is 1080 really that out dated ?

Hi Andy,

Nothing to stop me going sli, just trying to see if it's "really" worth it.

Oh and hello fellow Basingstoker, I live just off old kempshott lane :)

If you're happy with 1080 stick with it. But beware once you go above it you won't be able to go back, and 1080 will look very odd to you.

SLI would be nice, and should eat almost everything at 1440p. A single 970 would cope, but you'd definitely have to drop settings/not mind about not getting 60fps.

Does 1440 really take that much more juice to power ? If i go 1440 that will really bugger up having two monitors ? Having two different size res.

It is definitely more strenuous. 1440p is about 1.8 times as many pixels or something like that.

It shouldn't mess anything up. I have a 3440x1440 monitor sometimes paired with a 1080p one and it works fine.

Oh im so indecisive, i have 1080 and to me it looks great, i feel if i get the same monitor it will match and just sit lovely on the desk. But then im thinking what am i missing out on. I think i need to see a 1440 in action before i make a choice

I recently made the jump from 1200 to 1440 on a Radeon 7970 and the difference isn't ridiculous but its something to consider.

Evil within now runs anywhere between 25-35 FPS maxed out :( Whereas it was Low 30s to 40+ before.
Dragon Age Inquisition wont even go above 30 FPS at 1440 when it was 35+ before, so I'm gonna have to drop some settings when I get around to playing it properly if I want a nice experience.

I understand those aren't the best examples for optimised games so maybe they're not really indicative. I just havent tried anything else lol.
