Haven't bought a TV in the past 10 years so I have no idea what I should be looking for. I am guessing that a 55" would be enough for my needs.

Probably looking for Full HD as 4k doesn't interest me at the moment and there is not enough 4k content. I am not interested in 3D either.

I want it for football and Bluray's (via USB). Also I'd like to connect it with my PC (can it be done wireless, ethernet etc?) I'd like the TV to have pretty much everything of the newest technologies. Obviously great image quality is a must.

Budget is up to £900.

If it was me personally since its been 10 years since you last bought a TV your most likely going to keep this one a long time and 4K is pretty cheap now and would future proof you for a long time. Yes theres not much content but thats obviously going to change and you will have a tv that will last you a long time and support 4K for when it becomes more popular.
You did say you would like it to have all the newest technologies and newest is pretty much 4K and HDR.

Id go for something like...

I'd go into a Telly shop & decide for yourself. (not the Indian food place, the sources they use for their display tellies will give you no idea of what to buy)

1080p is pretty well much as well supported as it can be these days. 4K right now isn't as much but will get better I'm certain. This has happened with all display formats over the years in my experience. Having said that though, I'll wager by the time 4K sources will be widely available, 8K tellies will begin to appear & people (as in early adopters) will want that instead

i would also say its worth looking at 4k now, assuming you will not change the TV for a good few years.

i been eying up this for myself

There's a better version of this out called the LG55UF860V for not much more money.

I bought it 2 weeks ago from richer sounds during Black Friday shenanigans for £949 so it's sneaked back up in price now, but still isn't a huge difference from the 850.

After a lot of reading around, the 850 in the link is somehow quite watered down compared to the 860 and from what I've read, it's also a currys model. Which is bizarre if true.

The 860 gets you colourprime, which is LGs version of samsungs nano crystal technology, which should allow HDR so pretty future proof. Not to mention it's arguably as good as samsungs nano stuff even though those screens cost upwards of £1500 : )

Thanks cmsbfent, ill have a read up on that.

its crept the budget up slightly but sounds like its worth it

The thing is, I don't want to end with a low-end 4K instead of a High-end Full HD.. Or it doesn't matter?

It really doesnt matter as 4k is pretty cheap now. Plus your tv will upscale 1080p to make it look even better. HD blu rays look incredable on a 4k screen even though there not native 4k.

Its more about the type of technology than the panel type when it comes to tv's. Plasma/Oled/LCD/LED
Oled is too expensive, plasma is on the way out so its basically LED/LCD. Full backlit LED will give you a better picture than edge lit which i currently own at the moment.

No worries : )

And check your stand. The stand on the TV is 110cm wide at its feet and because it's not a flat base type stand, you need at least that for it to be secure. If smaller, and the feet hang slightly, it's pretty easy to shift the weight which could make you cry when you find it on the floor ; )

Well worth the cost though if you don't mind going a bit over budget.

I've got a Samsung UE55F7000, paid full whack for it a few years back but should be fairly cheap now. Absolutely fantastic TV. Keep me going for a few more years before there's more 4K content around.
