at the moment looking at Samsung UE65JU7500 for around £1750 with 5yr warranty chucked in

anyone more knowledgeable (that's pretty much everyone) got any other suggestions

no particular use, normal TV, sports and occasional film

A couple of folks I know have bought Sony models but they seem about same standard but more money unless I am wrong

Thanks

I can also get the JU6500 for 200-250 less than the 7500, it seems motion rate on this is 120 as opposed to 240, is this more likely to result in motion blur when watching sport?

OLED are too much money for the size I want unfortunately

of the 2 in the title which would folks go for?

cheers, that comes in as recommended, they also have a review of a smaller JU7500 which comes out highly recommended, assuming that the same applies to larger versions of course

65 inch tv's the cheap ones have issues with the panels. banding, etc. you may not think £1700 is cheap but it is for 65 inches. so your compromising PQ for size. if i had a budget is £1750 i'd honestly spend £750 ish on a 50-55 inch 1080P tv and £1000 on a projector with a 100" screen.

if i were forced to spend it on a single tv it would be a 50-60 inch OLED.

i think it's crazy to spend £1750 on a tv and it have worse PQ than my £799 50" plasma. bare in mind your spending more than 2 times as much for the extra 15".

you need to spend around £2500 to get a very good 65"

play about with this

select the options you want and see what it comes up with

no it doesn't unfortunately.

bigger panels have issues. you could get a perfect 50-55 inch panel but once you start going to 65" the panels worsen.

e.g. a mate had a 65" sony and it was terrible (awful banding and lines) even though it cost £3.5K. he traded it in for the exact same model but the 55" version which was flawless then waited a year then spent £2K in a rakuten super sale a few months back on a newer 65" sony and that was better, it usually retails for a lot more though.

some companies even change the panels completely when going up sizes. so you cannot really say the 65" version will turn out the same as the 55"

cheers that looks helpful :)

the price point your at doesn't really suit 65" i'm afraid.

a top quality 55" is £1500. the jump to 65" is an extra £1000.

so you need to figure out if you want to compromise one quality for size or not.

"Surveying the field, the Samsung 55JS9000′s main competition comes from LG’s 55EG960V OLED TV, Sony’s KD-55X9305C and Panasonic’s TX-55CX802B. While the LG, Sony and Panasonic hold the upper hand over the Samsung in outright black level, dimming effectiveness and colour accuracy respectively, none could outperform the UE55JS9000 as a complete package for enjoying movies, sports and video games. Because of its upgradeable One Connect Box and already-available HDR playback, the 55″ Samsung JS9000 is also the most future-proofed among the lot – it truly is a jack of all trades, and master of some."

i would be looking at all the tv's mentioned in the conclusion. the fact is 65" tv's are currently imo ridiculously overpriced unless you get a good deal like my mate did in the rakuten super sale (25 times point bonus, etc).

i'd wait for rakuten to do a similar sale tbh. they do them once a month but i reckon they will let the stupid people buy in boxing day sales before revealing the best deals.

the best time to buy a tv is end of january or during feb/march. the reason being the new (2016) models usually launch in april/may. so stores have to get rid of the old (2015) models before they start selling the new ones.

I have bought 2 tv's like this both EOL inbetween late january to march and i got them both for around 50% of their RRP. it's all luck though you won't be able to choose what models go on sale or at what time. you have to keep scouring avforums and checking what others are buying and getting john lewis to price match.

I got a 51" D8000 for £629 iirc when it's rrp was £1550

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/samsung-ps51d8000-201107011257.htm

that's nearly a 1/3rd of the price.

the following year I got a 50" GT50 for the bedroom for £799 when it's RRP was £1600

i reckon you might be able to snag one of those £2500 65" tv's inbetween jan-march for under £2K if you keep monitoring specific model threads on avforums and prices online regularly.

I've got the 65X8509 and no problems what so ever. It has got HDR and loads of other options I haven't touched yet.

It's great for playing PC games on and it does UHD and 4K on my PC.

Thats the model im trying to convince my wife we need. I don't agree about it being bottom of the range tho, i believe its got local dimming rather than edge with i think some of the smaller ones have. Reviews rate it as pretty good and its no where near £2500, more like £1800.

I got mine from RS for £1,790 with a six year extra warranty. Yes it has backlight rather then side.

A big update has been put off till next Feb\march. And this is for recording and picture in picture.

And if you install Kodi(nightie) for android it plays everything. Even UHD :)

I was looking today and ive seen it for 1650, however i need to be careful when i order as a) the wife needs to agree and b)as im sure you can verify, its a big bloody box so needs delivering to home rather than work as i dont fancy trying to fit it in either mine or the missus car.

been down to currys today to have a look, looked at the 65x809 as suggested, nice tv but we have decided to go curved as the place it is going into is a curved bay so it just looks better

the 2 in the title, the Samsung is the better looking set, the Sony seems a more natural picture, I suppose the Samsung over brightness can be adjusted down

Bloke in shop (who knew he wasn't getting a sale at his prices) seemed to recommend the Sony higher but stuff I have seen on web edged towards the Samsung
