Looking for a 939 board. Whats hot and whats not.

Looking for a decent 939 board as I've had it with 754. I've seen a ASUS A8R-MVP on a site for about £50, but I'm not sure if its good or not.

Its bascially for gaming and internet. Looking to pair it with a 1950xt.

Any good 939 mobo's recommendations would be appreciated.

So thats the best 939 board at the moment?

No of course it's not the "the best 939 board at the moment", it's simply the best 939 mobo, period.

Possibly looking for something a bit more modest. Don't need xfire or sli.

The Ultra-D is'nt SLI, unless you do a chipset mod.

if u cant find an ultra d an asus a8n 32 deuxe is a pretty good board, but seriously id reccomend keeping ** current bits for a while, save some money and go for an intel c2d rig

why would yuo want to go to 939 when you can get a c2d for pennies now

or even if your an AMD fan boy...go AM2 not 939
TRUTH

I'm an AMD fan boy (or was) gritted my teeth and went for a C2D and haven't looked back, I LOVE MY RIG :p
Don't do a partial step up when you can go the whole way for the same money

I was an AMD fan boy, hated intel, but I will very soon be moving to C2Quad as its just been proved they are so much better than the rubbish amd are putting out atm...and cheaper for better

939 is dated, and hardly an upgrade from 754 at all...since you can do pretty much the same things with it....ddr1...pcie....amd chip

waste of money

Its not an upgrade its a stop gap till crysis comes out. To get a nice C2D I'd have to spend 500-600 quid. I can do this for half that and sell it on in the winter for not much hit. Believe me I'm tempted by C2D, but 939 will do me for now.

why not just get a cheap c2d setup for now then  would cost the same as the amd setup, would perform much better, and you will not get much hit when selling on still.. not to mention you could probably keep some of the parts...

Check the members market, seen a few ultra-d's go recently, i brought mine from there to (for £35).

Also there's nothing wrong with 939, does me just fine for the time being....

Will be moving to Core2 soon myself.....

I run an Asus A8V-E Deluxe.
Not the best board but in my experience reliable & easy to clock & tweak. Asus update takes care of any Bios updating which is one potential nightmare taken care of, simply download new Bios to Docs start up the update & point it to the location, couldn't be simpler.
Clocking is **** easy with untold info available which is always reassuring prior to major tweaks,Clocking & hardware changes etc.
So on your searches around if you cannot find the top board you can settle for one of these at a cheaper price.

I upgraded from S754 to S939 and was underwhelmed - and this was before Core2 arrived. Got a DFI NF4 Ultra-D/3000+/2gig PC3200 sat on a desk, really ought to try and rig it up some time :)

Have a look here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17758565 - you can upgrade to C2D / 4gig RAM / Decent mobo / Decent GPU for £250 these days.

Personally I think people would have to be crazy to upgrade to anything except S775 these days. Not so long ago the cost of replacing memory was a barrier, but it really doesn't cost that much to switch to DDR2 anymore.

Stop gap upgrades are a waste of money IMO - either hold out a bit longer or at least make the 'stop gap' something to last a year or more (low end C2D).
