Looking for a build to run WOW

Hi guys

So a mate has gotten me back into WOW but I now need my own PC to play it.

I haven't looked at or built a pc for like 9 years now so really don't know what to get atm.

I was looking to try and save as much as possible, but still get something good enough so the game runs perfectly, no matter what's going on, on screen :D . (if it runs other game fine that's cool too :) )

mice, keyboarded, monitor etc im ok with, so just the PC itself.

Any help would be great guys.

Any idea at all on budget at all? What resolution is your monitor? Is it going to be just for WoW or are you OK to spend a little more to make it perform well in any modern AAA games?

was probably looking around £700 ish, just standard HD, im not fussed about 4k. WoW is my main focus but if the cost to play other games is not to high then it would be ok.

You can get a really nice well balanced system with your budget, it will play all games at 1080p really well :) If you can afford a little more then you can pick a different case which you prefer the look of as this one is a budget option, or drop to 8GB RAM and save £27 which you could use on the case as well.

Daaaveee, you forgot windows.

I'm going to assume you'd rather have it built for you? Do you have a monitor already?

Also, a specific budget would be useful, but another build plus monitor here for reference. Its a worse gpu but still should be significantly above WOW recommended specs. I don't play i myself but from what i know its more CPU bound than GPU.

ah cool thanks for the info guys, no I don't have a monitor, and I don't mind building it too. im guessing if I did buy it all in parts and built it I would save some cash, which I could put towards some better things ?

Would the bundle deals on the site be a good choice too ?

Apologies, I thought you already had the monitor as well as keyboard and mouse. Do you need these to be included in the £700 budget? You can pick up legitimate Windows 10 keys for under £30, a copy from here would take up a good chunk of the budget.

Definitely build yourself, its easy and you can save a good amount that can be better spent elsewhere :)

Some of the bundles here are worth it for the savings but some you will pay extra for (pre applied overclocked ones for example) so if you do spot a bundle just check the individual prices first.

Np I was not very clear, no the £700 was for just the pc itself.

well I will defiantly look at building it myself then, I mainly find it hard with what to pick with some components, I see so many motherboards and variants I don't get which ones to go for, don't want to pick something that would be too over the top for what I want :D

Yep picking the right bits is the hardest part really, making sure its all compatible and is well balanced and suited to what you want. For £700 without Windows and peripherals I stand by my build above.

As a WoW player as well I can say for certain you should stick to nvidia cards as WoWs old engine prefers them over AMD, and that the 1060 is a good choice for 1080p gaming in general as I have one in the wife's rig for that purpose.

You only really need an i3-6100 for WoW as it does not utilise more than 2 cores very well, however I think the extra £80 for the i5-6500 will be worth it in the long run as it is a true quad core processor, and your budget allows it. This processor and the 16gb of ram will ensure it lasts longer than the i3 and 8gb ram. Yes you sacrifice a bit on the case choice but that's always down to personal choice anyway and doesn't effect performance.

I think we need to put windows within that £700 yes? and how much for the monitor, happy with the £95 one above?

i really dont think you need 16gb, there isn't enough PC power behind it to use it. by the time you need it, the cpu and gpu will never keep up.

Also, the case does actually affect performance because of the way boost clocks work. This will be even more obvious over the long term when dust builds up, a poor airflow case will let you down on performance.

I think this is a wicked build. Worked on £800 as having £700 tower plus the monitor.

Its very similar to Daaveees first post. I have swapped ssd for SSHD. slightly slower speed but much more capacity. 240gb is quite limiting when its your only drive. stuck with 16gb ram becuase why not. a micro atx board would be prefereable but is out of stock right now. They have a bundle with it in, but only 8gb of ram.

Its a freesync monitor so it would be more logical to get an RX 480 but stuck with nvidia by daaveee recommendation.

Nice build as well Roverno, and your earlier comments are good ones so it gives Shaktar another option. I have no experience of an SSHD but do agree about the 250gb being limiting, but it depends on overall PC usage and if you need the extra space or not. 250gb is enough for the OS and a few games at least. I see your comment regarding case airflow but with the 1060 running so cool and not overclocking the CPU I don't think thermals are going to be that bad.

I had not really put much thought in to the monitor but the Freesync and AMD combo might be something worth thinking about. I am a big advocate of Freesync and G Sync (see my sig below!), however when limited to 60hz it probably doesn't matter so much as the 1060 will manage to hit 60fps easily anyway so you won't get that much benefit going to AMD. However if you upped the monitor to a 144hz one with Freesync then you might be better going with the RX480 to take advantage of this.

On that basis I would personally go for an RX470 i think. its still a very fast card and should have no problem with 1080p.

Gone a bit over budget using that monitor though. Maybe stick with the £95 one. That would take you down to like 755 all in.

Sorry, probably completely confused OP by this point but this would be the lower option monitor setup with a slightly better cooler on the GPU.
