well my tired 965be system needs an overhaul . I've had something wrong with it for a few years now even with the odd system change so something is wrong somewhere as its blue screening more and more.

I've now got a 4k tv which my pc is connected to . Now atm i'm not gaming on my current set-up as ive lost interest . i'm sort of looking at a like for like replacement or slightly better if cheap enough.

while upping the memory to 16gb . i'm currently using a 270x 4gb graphics card which I will at some point replace , but in no hurry .

Would this surfice ? or any recommendations ? don't want to go over £400 max
 
Theres no direct comparison, the closest I could find at Anandtech Bench is the i5 6600 VS 965BE and it was basically twice as fast at Cinebench and other cpu benchmarks.
 
Ordered what stulid suggested last night and order has been shipped. Forgot to check if the cpu comes with cooler. And I've also noticed the 6600 is unlocked multipler. Is the 6500 not good for Oc ?

The 6500 is a standard retail CPU that comes complete with stock cooler. It's got a locked multiplier, so you can only BCLK OC it - if your board lets you.

The 6600K does not come with a stock cooler and is fully unlocked. There is also a non-K 6600, which is locked like the 6500.
 
Ok thanks for clearing that up. I'll run it at stock anyway . But if it's quicker than my 965be I'll be happy. Shame the mobo I was suggested doesn't have hdmi tho .

You should be using the outputs of the 270x else you will be using the CPUs integrated graphics
 
Slight bump on this. Like my new setup but just wondering what would be my limit size in regards a new gpu slot wise ? I've got a zalman z9 case if that's if any help .
