Hi

Can someone point me in the right direction for a reasonably priced recorder (either DVDR or HD) that has built in freeview and divx?

I dont understand why liteon or those other cheapo makers dont produce one of these, as all i can find are really expensive pioneers etc.

Hi Lanz,

I spent a while looking for identical spec to you, (abit, twin tuner freeview)

I couldnt find anything sub 280 quid at the time, so bought the PVR80 from argos for 100 quid (twintuner freeview HDD recorder with 80 gig storage) and a Chilli DVDR+- recorder that also did divx playback for 65 quid off ebay.

Only problem is that to transfer all the stuff off the HDD, you have to do it 1:1, playing the item on the HDD box, and pressing record on the DVD recorder.... PAIN!

Yeah, its for my dad, he finally wants to get rid of his VCR, but he wants one unit that does everything... I just dont understand why such machines arent available, as I would have thought they would be hot property.

I was looking to the new iplayer HD for £300 (review) , as it does everything, but it doesnt have a DVD, so it would be a pain lending him divx films and tv eps - they would have to be run from a USB HD or pendrive.

I got a Yamada 1000hx dvd recorder that plays Divx and has hdd and disc and freeview and analouge tuners for just £220
