I am looking for a new game that is going to keep me busy for some time, I have a PS3 and 360 so can be a game for either system. I do like certain types of rpg's and have been looking at Dragon Age: Origins.

I have watched the review on gamespot and while it does look good, it also looks quite similar to Oblivion which I played for 2 hours and then sold. (I admit that I may not have gave this enough time, first impressions didn't really get my attention though.)

Is Dragon Age quite an overwhelming game? It looks from the reviews that there is loads of stuff to get used too and I prefer the style of Final Fantasy where you have loads of weapons and magic but it's all very easy to understand.

I like the old and new FF style of gameplay (Both turn based and active-turn based.) I really liked the fighting in FF12 and got used to it very quickly. A part of Dragons Age looks quite similar to the gambit system used where you can make other characters to things in certain situations.

If you have suggestions for any other deep games then let me know.

Just watched a review for this and while in general it does look very good, I would have some concerns about the difficulty of it, I am not really a fan of trial and error games as doing the same thing over and over gets annoying. I do like games to be challenging but the reviewer really made a point about the trial and error factor on this game.

Fair enough, you should check out the massive thread on this forum as well though, before you definitely decide not to.

Dragon Age can be played as lightly or as heavily as you like. Play on easy and the AI takes care of itself and you don't need to worry too much about tactics or even what items you're using. I'm about half way through and I am enjoying it.

If you fancy a good turn based JRPG then both Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are worth your time. I even enjoyed The Last Remnant which with an install on the 360 offers a great deal of enjoyment with the combat a unique standout.

Borderlands had me gripped for around 30 hours of playtime. I'd play more too if it wasn't for COD MW2.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I narrowed it down to Dragons Age and Fallout 3. I did like the look of the fighting style of Blue Dragon but those characters looked as if they could get quite annoying.

I decided on Dragons Age on the PS3, I prefer the mystical look of the game more so than Fallout, but with it being so cheap now I may pick it up as well later on.

Valkyria Chronicles is about 40 hours long and has a very good plotline, fairly interesting levelling up/equpment upgrade system and a very good combat system. Worth a look, woefully underrated game.

im playing through dragon age:origins on ps3 and im loving it, its not as free roam as oblivion or fallout as i enjoyed these but never got on with the roaming of the game, it feels similar to ffxii in terms of fighting as you sort out your team mates tactics similar to the gambit system, its very pick up and play as the ai is good so your team mates dont just rush in and get killed.

It seems almost an offline mmorpg guild wars style and i must say its the sort of rpg ive wanted for some time. I just hope it doesnt die off after a short while but the story is good so far.

The game is truly amazing, hard yes but fair at the same time. Tbh the trial and error never becomes annoying as the combat is brilliant meaning you will always come back for more even if you are repeating a level you've already done.

I put over 250hours into Demon Souls and need to rebuy it again as nothing comes close to just how good it is :)
