Looking for a future MMORPG

I've played many online RPGs in the past, most of which were free, although i have paid for one (Dransik/Ashen Empires).
It was seriously addictive at first, then got a bit repetitive, and pretty much stayed for the community. I guess it's like that with all online RPGs, unless the community sucks :P

I'm looking to get back into one, probably one where you need to pay (you only get what you pay for right?). I considered Guild Wars/WOW, but lagging years behind the top players made them an instant no.

So i'm looking to the future, and was wondering if there were any MMORPGs soon to be released that anyone knows about that are to the standards of GW/WOW.

In GW it is very easy to reach lvl20 quickly and you only have to worry about the other players when you pvp or do gvg stuff. You can learn the pve side and collect the skills you need along the way.

Onto new MMORPG's coming out there are quite a few but unsure what subs will be

Settlers of Gorath
Lord Of The Rings Online was just opened up for beta testing applications recently, waiting to hear if i am lucky to be asked.
Dungeon and Dragons online

A few more i cant remember off top of my head.

LOTRO is open for beta testing applications now and there's a post in the games section somewhere with the link, assume this will be a free beta if selected to take part. Not sure if there are any other free betas at present or ones open for applications bar LOTRO.

Turns out D&D is already released, but doesnt seem great for soloing unfortunately, which'll suck when you cant find someone you know online.

I cant find any info on Settlers of Gorath, do you have a link?

I'm applying for LOTR online beta now :P
Surprised that someone already has my usernme though.
hate when that happens :(

SOG was the free beta test for Dark and Light which has ended but inof on game will be there, need to read myself as haven't kept much up to date with it but looks like a 30th May Release.

If you are a hard-core dyed in the wool MMORPGer and not some johnny-come-lately WoWer I suggest you take a look at Vanguard Saga of Heroes. It is THE game that many original EQ1 players are awaiting. It will be slow levelling with harsh death penalties and slow travelling around the world .It is created by Sigil Games whose CEO is Brad McQuade...nuff said

/agree

Coming from beta testing EQ through to the end game in PoP (when I quit), I have to say I am looking forward to Vanguard more than any other mmorpg currently in production.

I was looking forward to Vanguard until I found out that SOE will be having a hand in it. I am still looking forward to it, but nowhere near as much. :(

If you haven't tried Everquest 2 then I'd seriously consider it.

It's changed dramatically for the better since release and has all the best aspects of EQ1 along with more quests and a greater ability to solo.

I hated EQ2 when it first came but have recently come back to it and it brilliant now.

I'm looking forward to LotRO, Pirates of the Burning Sea and Star Trek Online so you might want to check those out (granted STO isn't everyones cup of tea).

Further MMORPG's can be found at: http://www.mmorpg.com/

:)

Oooh Star Trek floats my boat, shame its gonna be over a year until it's full release.

Me and my mate used to check out http://www.mpogd.com/ for free ones all the time :P
But that site has exactly the info i need, cheers!

Huxley looks like one to look out for, but i think i'll be going for Dark and Light first.

Wait til SWG 2 guys ;) Might as well save all this grinding and let it out in a huge fit of pent up hardcore mmo'ing.

Main ones i'm looking at are:

Vanguard: Sage of Heros, from the makers of EQ, currently in late Alpha testing, always loved the way EQ has gone arround things and the content in the game is set to be very vast. Mainly aimed at power gamers/raiding. Release date TBA

LOTR Online, Signed up for the beta recently (think registeration is still going on) It's another codemasters game which should be good, not read a huge amount about it other than a few interviews and screenshots.

Darkfell Online: From a lot of ex-UO players and a few of their staff. Fairly PvP orientated (I'm usally a PvE man) but it also looks like the only game that could reproduce anything that UO gave us, has to be worth looking at.

Warhammer Online: I can see why they think it could work, apparently it's also going to be released on the Xbox 360. As with most warhammer games they always sound good but end of being binned off or naff.
