Basically I'm going to have a PC hooked up to my Samsung Series 6 HDTV. For gaming and watching HD films through the PC and stuff like that. I can pass on the Blu-ray reader because I've got a lot of HD stuff on the actual hard drive. I might get one later on though.

So I need a spec for about £600-900 that can do all that fairly well, obviously I want to play new games at a decent framerate and 1920x1080 resolution if possible. Any suggestions?

Need everything except the monitor, keyboard, mouse and Operating System.

With the kinda money you are talking about, you can afford an x48 or a p45 motherboard, somethign like a p5Q or a DFI. IT depends if you wanna go crossfire/sli in the future, although my recomendation is for the ATi route. You could get a 4870, with the possibility of sticking another one in later, you will need a fairly good CPU, something like a q9450 (or if you can wait a week, a q9550) and probably 4GB of DDR2, you won;t need anythign amazingly fast unless you wanna overclock. I've also specced you a 1TB drive cause you say you have a lot on file, but if you wanna save money then you can pick a smaller capacity. The PSU is powerful enough, but is also nice and quiet for watching movies.

It's at the higher end of your spec, but it will do all you want and last a few years too. You can save money by going for a slightly cheaper mobo (you could save about £50 there) and mayby a 4850 instead of a 4870 (although it may struggle at the resolutions you wanna play at)

Total Price : 896.43

Actually, don't need a HDD, should have mentioned that. I also have a DVD drive as well.
How much different will the motherboard make compared to a cheaper one?

Also, how much of a boost would another 4870 give me?

I will give quite a boost, but it is more for playing at the next res up. I have 2 for playing at 1920 x 1200, it gives that little extra, smoother framerates, the ability to turn everything up a little more.

As for the mobo, you can get the DFI Lan Party DK X48-T2R which is almost the same and it will save you £40, it won't restrict you in anyway. So you can knock off £100 for the HDD & DVD, knock off £40 for the mobo your still short of another 4870 with your budget. You could go for 2 x 4850's, or you coudl go for a cheaper case

Re:

I already have a case, I'm pretty sure it'll hold everything. So I might be able to cut out that completely.

That way I might be able to get the two graphics cards... hmm. I guess I could start with one and add another one if it can't quite handle it.
