Hi all, as the topic says im looking to get either a dual card setup or single card solution and im wondering what is the best way to go, wouldve loved the 7970 but just cant stretch to the price that is being banded about atm.

Anyways my budget is 300ish for the gfx also may need to include a psu since my current one is a 650w and the rest of my compnents are as follows.

Corsair dominator 1600mhz ram - 4gb
Intel i5 720 @ 3.4ghz
Gigabyte p55 ud3 mobo
hd5750's in xfire

also would like to play this at pretty high resolutions and decent settigns high would be great.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

corsair and i play at currently on my 26" 1920 x 1200 but i would like to play on a 40" tv sometimes at 2560 x 1600 if possible

For 300 quid I would go with a 6970 2GB Twin FrozR III

However with the 79XX series coming soon I would hold off for a couple of weeks to see what price point they come at, and to see if this forces a price drop of current cards :)

Also, what model is your power supply? A decent branded 650w can handle a heavily overclocked 580 as well as the rest of your system :)

Also if it can come into your budget I would consider upgrading to 8GB of ram. Selling your 5750's could help increase the budget :)

570 2.5GB if you can find any in stock would be my choice, I think once the ati 7 series is released the 500 series will come down in price and you could look SLI down the line, Your PSU should be fine for 570's

is it possible that cpu will bottleneck the card or will it be fine till i upgrade to the i5 2500k (eventually) :-S

Yeah, it will be fine for the TFIII card. You should also be able to get another 4GB of ram as well, which should be useful. As I said however, I'd wait a couple of weeks to see how the 79XX series affects pricing.

The only advice I would give you is get a single solution card, my son runs 2 x Ati 6950’s in crossfire and regrets it.

so twinfrozr seems to be a popular choice thanks for the help, ill wait a week or so after the launch of the 7970 see if the prices drop as for ram, im a bt of noob and does it have to be same brand and model? or is it okay to bang in any brand model of ram ? think ive read somewhere that it had to be matching from the same batch etc etc maybes not.

like i say im a bit of a novice at this well the technical side of it anyways :-)

Yes, the ram has to be the same brand and model.

If you can however, I'd sell your ram and buy an 8GB kit of the HyperX Genesis Grey. Leaves you space to upgrade further in the future, and the ram is well known to be among the best you can get :)
