Well as title say I'm looking for a decent monitor. Checked out these 120/144hz ones. Don't know if they are really worth it or should just stick with standard 60hz.

Also confused on best type as there are 4 different ones I believe.

Specs:

Monitor: LG FLATRON W2243S
Graphics Card: AMD Sapphire 7970HD (3gb) Dual X
Ram: 8GB
CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1100T 3.3ghz BE
Motherboard: ASUS M5A99X EVO

I heard they say if you can't run games at 120FPS then these high hertz monitors aren't worth getting considering you can get 60hz cheaper.

Any ideas?

PS: I'm not wanting to spend a fortune on one. Got my LG about 3+ years ago for £125 and been happy with it.

Hi there, May I ask what kind of stuff you mainly do with your PC?

If it is mainly fast-paced games then a 120/144Hz TN panel monitor would be your best bet. Even if you can't hit 120/144FPS with your graphics card you will still find that the gaming experience in these fast-paced games is better than with a 60Hz monitor.

However, if you are mainly using the PC for medium/slow paced games or PC applications then you would likely be better off using an IPS panel monitor. IPS panel monitors only refresh at 60Hz and their pixels are slower to switch compared to standard TN panel monitors. However, modern IPS panels refresh fast enough so that motion blur isn't noticable in most games and they offer much better viewing angles and colour accuracy compared to TN panels. Many gamers (including myself) enjoy playing a wide range of games on them with no issues.

It is also worth considering a 1440p monitor if you have the budget for it. These are high resolution 27in monitors that use IPS panels and cost £350+. They are really nice to use and offer a tonne of desktop real-estate compared to 1080p, however they do require a lot from your graphics card. Your 7970 will be able to handle most modern games at 1440p, however you will need to drop a few of the settings down in some games to achieve 40FPS+ framerates.

Well I play lots of different games. Some fast paced others not. Consider myself a hard core gamer though can't spend a fortune unfortunately.

You might want to take a look at the new Dell U2414H 24" monitor :)
