Hi

My son is wanting to get in to VR.His current system needs a GPU upgrade to work with the Oculus rift.

i see a few budget cards that say VR ready.are these capable of running a RIFT on a 1080p system?
Thanks

Really VR and budget graphics cards, don't really go together.

A 1050ti would not be very good for VR, I would be looking at something like a 1070 minimum.

This also depends on the rest of his PC, such as what power supply he has and will it power his new card. His CPU and will it bottle neck his new graphics card.

I've not had any issues running an Oculus Rift S on a GTX 1070 but from what I've read that's pretty much minimum spec so I would suggest finding a 2nd hand one of those or equivalent AMD if you are on a budget

Depends on the games too. Something like dirt 2 at high quality is going to be quite demanding compared to superhot.

Have you considered the quest 2 instead?

Just out of curiosity i tried my oculus on my sons old RX470, it ran but it wasnt great. id probably aim for Vega 56 and upwards if AMD or around 1070 and upwards if looking at Nvidia.

Thanks for the repleis all.He doesn't usually play very demanding games.what he wants to play on VR i don't know though to be honest.probably gimmicky games like five nights freddie and the like.

I had seen the quest but was confused by it.i was not sure if it was for mobile phones or something.last time i looked in to VR i only knew about oculus and needing a lot of machine to run it.

If i pushed my budghet to £200 would that be a bit better? on ocuk the only vega i see is £900 lol.all the current new model numbers are confusing as i've been out of the loop for a while.

A mate of mine got a second hand 5700xt for £180. If you look around you can get yourself some amazing bargains at the moment.

The quest 2,though is out of budget, will play most of these games standalone with the ability to also be used with a pc for more demanding games.
