HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X1800 XL 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-042-HT)

£211

Viewsonic VX724 17" LCD Monitor (MO-041-VS)

£233

:)

cheers ive been looking at the viewsonic, how would that compare against the Iiyama X Series PLX436S-S 8ms DVI + Infrared motion sensor & Ambient light sensor?

cheers lee

Viewsonic has better viewing angles and a better response time.

Imo all viewsonics have an awsome image quality too.
Remember that as your gaming, we want the best response time possible. :)

Or get a new one!

PowerColor ATI Radeon X1800 XT 512MB £252 inc VAT

Sapphire ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB £217 inc VAT

They're worth the extra over the X1800XL - they're a fair bit faster

bah, devaluation :( still, it was a crossfire master card i got :D

The sapphire X1800XT 256 is probably the best bang for buck out at the moment. (£217 including Vat)

The 7900gt's are excellent but quite a bit more expensive.

They are and they aren't any quicker than the X1800XTs - they're just a speed bumped 7800GTX really

Yep, the 7900GT cards are slower than the X1800XT cards.

Considering the X1800XT are also cheaper thats the only choice really.

Get the Sapphire X1800XT 256MB. You wont regret it !

And with the Viewsonic VX724 17" LCD Monitor, your in your budget. :)

Would it be worth going for a 19" monitor? something like the Samsung SM930BF TFT 4ms Black/silver +DVI 700:1?
which will be best for gaming between this and the viewsonic?
cheers lee

most 17" and 19" tft's have a native reoslution of 1280x1024 anyway. (A few 19" doe have a reoslution of 1600x1200 but they are expensive).

I personally have a 17" LG tft screen and it is amazing for the price I paid for it (£160 from a leading highstreet store)

It runs both my 360 and PC games and they look amazing. No slowdown noticed on my X1800XT either.

dont be fooled by refresh rates of 4ms, there is no universal standard for measuring refresh rates on a tft so whats 4ms for one company is 16 for another.

also... samsung? i wouldnt personally. id spend the extra on a Sharp or Neovo. also to be honest, i personally think its a bad idea to order a TFT from the net, the best way to pick a TFT thats right for you is to go into a pc suppliers store, and actually look at the picture wuality on the TFT under gaming conditions, i did. drove them nutts but they wanted my £300 and i didnt want to part with the money if it wasnt perfect for me.
