My pc tower has been in mothballs a few years now , but it’s not too bad

Intel Core i5-6500 3.20GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor
Asus H110M-K Intel H110 (Socket 1151) DDR4 Micro ATX Motherboard
Team Group Elite 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C16 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black
MSI Radeon R9 270X Gaming Edition OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

The week point is The graphics card .... exact make without looking it’s a 4gb 270x

I’ve got a Corsair cx600 psu . Pc will be hooked up to a 4k tv . I’ve got a boatload of old steam games I’ve not played in years and want to hook it up and play again.
I’m nit looking for a top end card to game at 4k , just something that will give me a boost from what I have. Which should be difficult lol.

Don’t mind 2nd hand or refurbs . But don’t want king siz monster cards either lol. I’m assuming my pc is still ok spec wise ? Any suggestions?

edit.... memory might be an issue I suppose as it’s abit slow... this build is nearly 4 years old.

I was thinking he can either build an new system, or do the best he can with a new GPU.

Main issue on same games will be the 4 threads. Many openworld games will see big frame drops although racers won't be bottlenecked. What's your budget? You won't actually be able to game at 4k

im not looking at 4k gaming . I’ve got an Xbox one x and will be getting the series x on release for that. I just want a graphics boost . Don’t want to go higher than £250. Considering the age of the 270x I’m assuming anything will beat it lol.

I'm guessing you won't be upgrading for another 4-5 years, so you want the best now for your money, while also future proofing.

For an exact £250 budget, this is probably best:

If you're willing to look at B Cards (they're usually returns they can't legally sell as new), this will work out at £225 after rebate, it is much faster and has 2gb more VRAM

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/b-gr...s-card-asus-65-pounds-cashback-bg-9af-as.html

But if you can stretch to £290, this would give you a 5700 with a nice cooler (again a B card)

Want a £188 cheaper option that is about 11% slower than a 1660 Super but with 2gb more VRAM? A card that should probably age better too because AMD drivers do age better because of console tech, driver updates and VRAM:

Good luck - all of these will be somewhat bottlenecked by the CPU in certain games. In time you'll see the full potential of the card once you move to a 6core system.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Much appreciated. Some of those cards look massive. Just looking for an easy boost :-)

What do you mean by 'easy boost'?

Have you measured your old card?

Have you checked the dimensions of that against those suggested?

How much room have you got in your case?

The msi Ventus I've been looking at for a while.... Is that good for 1080p or maybe 1440p?

Perfect for 1080p, less good at 1440p because of VRAM limitations, ideally for 1440p you want a 8GB VRAM card. But definitely very playable at 1440p, just turn some settings down if you're struggling with FPS. If you think you want 8GB VRAM look at AMD's 590's.

I don't know whether that's the best 1660 Super you've selected as I don't know much about them, BUT the advice still stands, warranties is something to look at too.

5 years on this one and much cheaper, but someone will more 1660 Super expertise will advise if you're set on a a 1660 Super.

Looking at what's in stock I'd pick one of those two.

unless I’m missing something I can’t see 8gb for that card

There aren't any that's why, which I why I suggested a 590, which you say is too big. You can't have a really small card and 8GB. Many cards will handle 1080p as the previous post suggests. But a 4GB 470 isn't suitable for 1440p.

Decide what resolution you want to play at.

Current card dimensions
