Looking for a graphics upgrade

In new games I am starting to find my 8800gts 512mb is not smooth at 1900x1200 with everything maxed out.

I really have no idea what would be a good upgrade, as I personally don't think it is worth me spending money unless there is a large improvement.
As I have no idea what to look at, as because of this I don't know what I want to spend. The 4870 looks good but I am concerned that it is only 512mb.

I would spend up to £100 plus what my current card is worth as I will sell it.

I notice the ati cards have dropped a lot over the last 2 days.

Yea, that 4890 is ridiculously cheap!!! snap one up fast!

I had an x1800xt......that sounded like my dyson!
Are the ati coolers any better these days?? I hate noisy fans!

Am I right in saying the 260 216sp 55nm is on apar with the 4870, and the the 275 is on apar with the 4890?

What about the £112 4870?? Or is 512mb not enough these days? Would a 4870 be a significant upgrade from an 8800gts?
