Was 150 yds from OCUK - now 0.5 mile; they moved
I'm looking for a 16"-17" screen, MIST be 1080p or higher.

i3 or i5 CPU
at least 8GB RAM
120GB SSD and 1TB HDD
or 250GB SSD and 500GB HDD
Full number pad
Windows 10 (NOT 7 or 8.1 with free upgrade)
Doesn't need gaming GPU

Looking to pay up to £500, also the cheapest laptop on OcUK is £800, sort it out! :)

Ooof, I think you'll struggle to get anything like that for £500. The closest to those specs I can find are:

Cube Chameleon CZ-5850
Intel® Core™ i5-4210M Haswell Dual Core Processor
15.6" Full HD Matte Screen
Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64bit
16GB DDR3 RAM
120GB SSD + 1000GB HDD 7200RPM
DVD Rewriter
Dedicated GTX 850M 2GB Graphics
USB3 | HDMI | Bluetooth
1 Year Cube Warranty
Brushed Mineral Grey
Price: £699

Not on OCUK, though so you'll need to do a search for it.

If you're happy to settle for a single 1Tb hard disk (or a smaller single SSD) I reckon that would open up your options a bit.

Nice suggestion but I've never heard of that brand before so am a bit nervous.

I really want a laptop for light gaming/work/VMWare and am struggling with a budget of £500 too. :(

Yeah, I would sort of feel the same - but it's a good spec machine for the price and it turns out that Cube are a custom laptop brand that use Clevo laptop platforms for their machines, which quite a few custom laptop resellers use and have got a good reputation.

I do feel that for £500 you're going to have to set your sights lower, unless you're willing to go for something second hand.

Sorry to hijack!

Is it worth looking at AMD based laptops then, seeing as their APUs should allow for light gaming (as in RTS or older RPGs)?

if you could drop to a 15.6" screen a MEDION AKOYA E6417 (MD99248) maybe worth a look.
It comes in at £429. But no SSD. However they do a model MD99252 that has a ssd as well as a hard drive so in theory a £70 ssd should fit in. As the MD99252 doesn't have a 1080p. Annoys the hell out of me you don't get more 1080p screens in laptops.
