looking for a LCD for PS3/360

I would get a 32" samsung r87 series, can be had for around £450. Spend a bit more and get something with better contrast ratio etc.

For example that AOC has only 1200:1 ratio and the r87 has 8000:1

True the samsung is a better lcd but i believe the 8000:1 contrast ratio is dynamic so the true contrast ratio is actually lower.

a thought a contrast ratio of 1200:1 is good

would like another toshiba 32wlt66 which have in the other room, cracking display.. but I dont have the cash :-(

I'd avoid the samsungs. The on the fly contrast adjustment can be very annoying, especially in scenes that transition for light -> dark and vice versa or ones that are on the contrast boundary causing a stupid flicker.

Don't read contrast ratios. Get on avforums as they are much more clued up than people in here and most importantly view all the sets you are considering in person rather than taking anyones advice.

Just bought a Samsung LE40M87 40" LCD TV runs at full 1080p and the black levels are superb, on a par with plasma.

'The on the fly contrast adjustment' can be turned off, but if you're running a PS3 vis HDMI then you don't need it on anyway.

Virtua Tennis runs at 1080p and looks amazing:D

edit: The 'Super Clear Panel' which gives such good black levels is only available on the 40" models and up.

So that 'extra deep black' they've been advertising doesn't depend on the contrast adjustment mode? Is the black depth genuinely a lot better than regular LCDs then, and have you tried watching some films with dark scenes with the lights out?

Cheers :)

Hi

The super clear panel is always on, We have watched Casino Royal and Eragon on blu ray and they both look amazing, Eragen (while being a bad moie) is very dark in places and the blacks where very black. Even while watching normal Sky the black levels are outstanding.

There are so many setting that I am still playing with them.
