Looking For A Less Stressful Car

If I had £2k i'd be looking at these. It's too old a car to be looking to drop the best part of £10k on one.

Sorry.

If you had £2k you wouldn't be looking at S-Types because you wouldn't be able to afford one...

Sorry, but it really winds me up when someone starts a thread saying stuff like:

Not bothered about-

• Age.

When you quite obviously are.

Right you are, sorry. No way can you get an S-Type for less than £2k.

Maybe I should have been specific; I don't mind the age as long as it's a car conceived in the last decade. Sorry fox that puts the E46 out the picture also.

Congratulations for missing the point.

£2,000 buys you one of the 34 dregs currently available on AutoTrader for that sort of money. If this is all you can stump up you can't afford a S-Type.

Either way I'm not parting with £9k in exchange for a car that wasn't even great in '99 when it was released. Thanks but no thanks.

Which keeps the XJ in the mix then :D ...it's also faster and more fuel efficient than the smaller S-Type as it weighs less being aluminium and looks miles better, has a better interior ...well it's just 'better' :)

XJR looks stunning and super fast! I've already had a Saab, would a Jag be a step to far.

Yup, pre-LCI is 141/143 (auto/man) and LCI is 146/147.
Quite. Our 2005 525d gets nowhere near 155. Got 145 indicated though after rather long time..
And on that note, the LCI E60 is a much better car. Our E60, whilst very good, isn't anything special and build quality isn't exactly superb..

Spamalot, the problem here is that £12k is too much for most cars worth looking at, and not quite enough for the newer stuff.
Except the XJR, but you said no..

Nahh of course it wouldn't, it's nothing like a Saab anyway :p ...an XJR is hardly an OAP mobile :p ...it's a very fast, very luxurious, beautiful, elegant wafter with a mean bite. The XJR is not as soft and lazy as the none R's ..it has a different suspension setup and can be surprisingly agile and taught when asked to be. The power is delivered absolutely instantly as well being supercharged, no lag, no delay ...just bang! ...400bhp and 400lbs/ft of go under your right foot.

It also happens to fit your budget perfectly, as you have no doubt discovered, a lot of other stuff either falls bellow or above your budget. I really don't think you can do better than the Jag for the money. Of course you do have to accept the fact that no matter how fast and capable it is, it's ultimately not a sports car and never will be, it's 5.1 metres long and like a sofa compared to a Boxster. However, that seems to be sort of what you want. Don't make the mistake of thinking it's a complete boat like an S class though, it isn't.

Would I be mad to look at the bottom of the 645 market? It seems to offer everything I want, speed, badge, not to old manish... I would love an SL500 but don't want to over push the pennies at the moment.
