Behind you... Naked!
I have just bought a P4 3.6

Dont know why cos its naff.

Anyway, its the one and only PC I got thats got PCIE so I might as well have a play, given that the cards are cheaper than AGP.

Its currently got an X700LE in it, and its not bad I suppose for basic gaming, and I am not really in that much need for high end stuff, I got my AMDs for that, but I really dont have a clue as to this PCI-E lark.

Can anyone recommend a fairly quick, and cheap alternative to this one?

Like I said, not too fussed abotu speed, but obviously, its got to be better than this one and be worth spending on.

UT2004 was giving me about 80FPS on middle settings and up to 110 on fast ( Control panel settings of course ) while on the same levels and settings with the AMD & R9800Pro, I was gettign over 200FPS, so a big difference there.

The 6600GT is about on par with the 9800Pro, but if I was to opt for one of those, then which one?

Anyway, I am probably going to go nVIDIA because I want better OGL support, but not settled on anything, because as I said, I dont have a lcue as to what to go for?

Any thoughts?

Leadtek WinFast PCX6600GT-TDH GeForce PCX6600 GT 128MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-045-LT)
Price: £69.95 (£82.19 Including VAT at 17.5%)

XFX GeForce 6800 GS Extreme XXX Edition 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-056-XF)
Price: £119.95 (£140.94 Including VAT at 17.5%)

PowerColor ATI Radeon X800 GTO16 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-055-PC)
Price: £79.95 (£93.94 Including VAT at 17.5%)

All of those are good choices, although the X800 GTO16 is probably the best value, but lacks SM3.0 and the improved OGL support. But any of them are worth the money and will be a huge increase over the x700le

Yep, as said.

6800GS & X800 GTO16 (X800XL, due to extra 4 pipes allready open) are about same speed. The ATI card is a lot cheaper, but no SM3.

One of these two is probably your best bet.

Hmm... Quite.

I think the Leadtek will be a choice for me, as I have given a mate an old Ti4200 thats a LeadTek, and its still going as good as the day I got it, and he can even play games like Quake 4 / Doom 3 etc, albeit at lower quality, but the thing is, that its proved its worth because its a leadtek... I have had other Ti4200's and they are dead or dying ( MSI, ASUS, and Gigabyte )

So, the make will be a big decider there, even if it looks to be the lowest performer of the pack.

The XFX? - I got an XFX 6600GT in a Barton here... Not overly impressed with its performance and find the 9800Pro a tad quicker to be honest... So, compared to say the 6600GT AGP Card, how much better is this 6800GS? - Any idea percentage-wise?

The X800 though, at under a ton, thats surely a serious contender too?

SM3 for myself I doubt I need worry too much TBH... The OGL is somethign that I do want, but then, is it vital for me? - I can just accept it and use a nVIDIA card on another box?

Bloody hell, I am still undecided.

Ok, lets drop the LeadTek for a minute...

Comparing the other 2, the XFX is about 50% more expensive... So...

Is it 50% quicker?

is it 50% more reliable?

Never had a PowerColor card at all, so are there any horror stories?

I suppose XFX is stilltoo early to tell too perhaps? Not heard of XFX until a few months ago.

LeadTek however have been a great maker for me.

Sod it... 3 bits of paper in a cup coming up....
