Dose anyone know of any AMD AM2/Intel Core 2 Duo (not mobile) compatible Mini-ITX boards with 4 SATA connectors for around the £120 mark? I’ve found one but it’s hard to find anywhere with stock. Alternative suggestions welcome :)

Sorry about the original post mod.

If you can't get it from OcUK then no one is going to tell you about any other company selling it as that is against house rules.

Yeah I know, but OCUK don't sell Mini-ITX boards and never have done to my knowledge :( If someone could just let me know if it's possible to find them in the UK, and give me some hints on how I might find said place that would be a big help. I will be buying the rest of the components from OCUK, and I'd buy the board if they stocked them. I've seen them on one site for £120, but they're out of stock and I can get hold of them via phone.

I've found somewhere, but it's a three week wait for stock.

Can anyone suggest any alternative AMD or Intel (non Core 2 Mobile) based Mini-ITX boards with 4 SATA connectors for around the £120 mark?

I'm afraid no one is allowed to give you that information as they'd be a competitor.

All i'm going to say (I hope it's not against the rules) is that if you google you'll find one big site that sells a lot of Mini-ITX gear, they're the best place to go for that kind of thing.

Thanks for changing the title mod, but I’m not sure why you removed the link. It was only too the manufactures website, not a competitor.

I know the site you mean, and I've not been able to find anything suitable. All the high end boards (i.e. not VIA and onboard SATA support etc) are £170+ and use Core 2 Duo Mobile CPUs costing another £150. They also have lots of things I don’t need such HDMI + DVI out which I’m sure adds to the cost.

The KI690-AM2 has everything I need for circa £120 e.g. SATA, non VIA/SIS chipset and takes standard AMD AM2 CPUs which are significantly cheaper than the Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile equivalent. There are no AMD based boards on the website you suggest, though I’m sure there must be others out there. If anyone can give me any examples (model numbers, not links) of any others they’ve come across it would be helpful.

The EQS AB6S-RS690IKM Mini-ITX motherboard seems to fit most of your needs. It's an AM2 board though only has 2 SATA ports and costs around £85. Is there any reason for needing the 4 SATA ports for this system (a server?)?

The current Intel boards from Commell can be very expensive (i.e. £200+) though there are newer boards from Intel with on-board Celerons for under £100 that are intended for emerging markets.

I have seen the EQS board late last night. It dose fit my needs apart from as you say the limited 2 SATA ports and the lack of gigabit LAN, which I could possibly do without but would be nice to have as I’ll be using it as a NAS device.

The reason for the 4 SATA ports is I want to use the board with this case and will be utilising all four hot swap HDD bays. I could solve the problem by adding a SATA controller and use a riser card but that adds another £20-£30 and would require more power and is less tidy inside the case. It’s looking increasing like this might be my only option though.

I've been looking for a motherboard to use with a hoojum. Pref 775 socket that supports P4 or celeron. (3GHz rather than the 1.5 that seems to be on most of the on boards) Would like to have a gfx card that supports 1920x1200. Not bothered if it is onboard and only need support 1 hard drive and an optical.
These damn 775 boards just seem to cost too much... Any ideas?
BTW stretch - love the case!

Im looking at building a linux server over the next few months, I read that you can set the mini-itx boards to turn on/off at set scheduled times. Anyone know if this is true?

This is probably the only reason for me to go mini-itx over ATX.

the IEI Kino 690S1 M'board for AMD Turion with ATI Graphics looks good

and it as 4x sata :)

it costs £140.00 tho

or

Jetway J7F3 AMD Geode NX1750

I've used a few M-ITX boards and haven't seen anything to do with timed shutdown. I presume this would be supported at an OS level and would just require a recent mainboard. Windows and Linux have been doing soft shutdowns for years so just a matter of finding an applet that works.

I found my Linux Nas / server was taking too much setting up, used freenas but it was touchy. I eventually used a 939 board with a dual core and XP.

Works fine, 40MB/sec upload over the lan, Gbit of course.

Power usage with 4 drives is 65W at idle, only goes up when I'm using it to recode video etc so I just leave it on 24/7.

It also serves duty as a CCTV recoder with 3 cameras.

Access via remote desktop is great. With a download manager I can queue all my downloads to run over night and I turn off my main PC which uses near 300W

You can pick a similar AM2 mainboard, Dual core CPU and 2GB DDR up for ~£80 leaving you more money to spend on HDD's

Unless you have space constraints you could consider this as a case since it has internal quick removable bays and comes with a PSU that has 4 sata cables:

It comes with a decent branded high efficiency PSU which costs >£40 so if you can live with having to removed the side panel to get at the drives it's a good buy.

If I hadn't just spent £1K on bathroom gear my server would be in one of those instead of an old case whick I cut out the drilled fan vents and then added 4 5v 80mm fans with an 5 year old enermax 465W psu .... 33A @ 12V

Sounds like me. I used an old ATX board and then ran ClarkConnect. You can then use the crontab command to turn it off. Learnt that the other day. Now sound like a Linux expert after 3 days!!!:rolleyes:

Look here for an excellent guide that walked me through it and I know nothing about Linux systems.
