Hi
Am building a system that i want to have 192gb of memory with the intel i9 1400k but cant seem to find a motherboard that takes 192gb, all the specs say 128gb.

Can anyone recommend any for me on OCUK web site? i have the system in the cart ready to buy its the following

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,867.79 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Thanks in advanced.

o forgot to add i have purchased an RTX 6000 ADA card going in for abit of A.i stuff.

Thanks

i thought so but wanted to ask the quesiton incase i was wrong.

thank you both for the help!

With 4 DIMMs you may not get full speed out of the RAM and you should check the QVL very carefully. MSI have an AM5 motherboard (Pro X670-P Wifi) that can handle 256 GB (4x 64GB) at 6000 speed.
Not sure why but the person using it wants to use Intel.

You're aware that what the specs say is basically meaningless with 192GB memory, right? There's also no point at all in buying high speed memory because it won't reach it.
Am looking at different options, Would you recommend AMD option above to get the full speed out of the ram?

No. 48GB is the best idea, I'm just saying there's no point buying high speed memory. You might as well buy the cheapest kits you can get and pray, since more than the base spec of the CPU is likely the best you can do.

I have seen no reports of testing with the new Core Ultra CPUs, so you could perhaps check that out and see if they do better!

The stock memory spec for the Core Ultra CPUs (6400) is way higher than 14th gen (5600) and AM5 9000 (5600).

The base speed expected to work for AM5 CPUs is:
4 sticks, dual rank (32GB or 48GB sticks): 3600

The base speed expected to work for 1700, 14th gen CPUs is:
4 sticks, dual rank (32GB or 48GB sticks): 4400

I don't think the actual results of the two are along those lines, the best case result I believe is around 5200, hence I'm saying there's no point buying anything except the cheapest kits.T

Thanks

i understand now thanks for taking the time out to help.

You should rather consider a Threadripper or an older Xeon system.

Running all 4 DIMMs on consumer DDR5 hardware isn’t great as Tetras and others have said

You could get a used enterprise server with all the RAM you need that wouldn’t be fast but it would probably be fast enough (especially with a modern Nvidia AI focused GPU)
Ok thanks, a bit more to the story, its going to be a work PC for the user and he wants to start doing stuff with Local A.I for his job. he asked for the intel processor over amd and said he wants 192gb of ram, we went down the workstation route but for some reason even after i told him to get a workstation he wants this route. He has a RTX 6000Ada ready to go in it and has about 2k / 2.5k to spend.
I don't do much with high end systems that's the reason for the post.

when someone said "Running all 4 DIMMs on consumer DDR5 hardware isn’t great as Tetras and others have said" are you just saying the system will work but the memory wont run as fast as it should.

We have been down the second user xeon market, the workstation market and he wants the above. i have put it to him the memory will run slower than it should.

sorry to keep this post going,

why would a motherboards web site 4x 48gb works with a motherboard with ddr5 when it doesnt or does but not very stable?

From the Asus web site. More just want to get my head around it than anything.

thanks for all the help. he decided to go for 96gb of ram 2x 48 in the end after explaining it all. so see how he gets on i guess. and i offered him a few workstations with dual xeons 256gb memory about 4 years or so old but he wanted knew and went for the 96gb.

thanks so much for this. everydays a school day.
