Hey guys my current set up is a 4790k and it's almost out of warranty so i'll be giving it someone in my family and upgrade towards the end of the year.

I game and starting to get into video editing. I have a £500 budget. The question is AMD or Intel?

I do like the look of Ryzen but at the same time Intel seem to have better per core performance.

If you can find an improvement for £500 from intel then go for it, otherwise you should be able to buy a ryzen 1600, ram and mobo for £500.

Not much of a single threaded improvement over what you have, but you get more cores for the future when games inevitable take more of an advantage with them, you get much better multi core performance and the potential to drop in a zen 2 or 3 cpu when they are released.

It's up to you to decide whether it's worth the money or you could up your budget and go for coffeelake.

Have a look at some of the threads on here because this question has been asked a few times recently.

wait for coffee lake. then make your mind up. there is no point going ryzen now when in few weeks time you could have a faster system.atleast you can compare and decide what is best for you.

The 8700K may have unchallenged single-thread performance and at the same time have about the same multi-thread performance as the Ryzen 1700. If you can wait, then definitely wait for the numbers.
