I'm looking for a PC game with the sort of combat you get in final fantasy 7 (not played any of the others). Something recent where you can learn new skills as you go along with that same style of fighting. I'm guessing it will have an oriental flavour to it, used to play an amazing one on the PS2 but have forgotten what it's called. My memory is bloody useless :(. Any suggestions?

Do mmorpg's not tickle your fancy?, would open up a lot more final fantasy like doors.

I've played nearly every MMORPG going in the last 5 - 6 years and i just don't have the time to put into them anymore.

It's not quite the same fighting style as Final Fantasy, but Knights of the Old republic may, or may not, be right up your street. It's a Star Wars RPG, combat wise, it's turn based, but real-time, and you learn lots of new skills and powers along the way, including the game being quite open ended. I consider it one of the very best games out there, but it's not for everyone.

Another RPG set in a make believe oriental location is Jade Empire, it was originally on the Xbox, but it's coming out on the PC. The combat isn't like KOTOR or FF, it's more based on the skill of the player, but that's got a lot of moves and magic to learn again.

Just couldnt get into KOTOR when i played it. I'll have a look into jade empire. I should have my hands on FF11 during the week so i'll see how that pans out. Wish i could remember the name of the playstation game i used to play :(. Can't even describe how it played lol.

I'll do my usual defense for KOTOR, if you didn't like it once you became a Jedi, then it's not a game you'll enjoy, but if you don't manage to get that far, the first planet sucks quite a bit, and is a bad representation of the rest of the game.

Think Jade Empire is still a little way off, January 2007, though if you happen to have an Xbox or Xbox 360, then you can play it now.

I have recently became bord of Call of Duty 2 after 10 months

So I needed/wanted a new game

I went for Battlefield 2 and it is so good :D
It really is brilliant

Grandia 2 :D

It's a port but I doubt you'll find anything closer to the old FF RPGs. Don't expect any shocking graphics either although you could probably get it for £1 now.

Beaten to it, but I'll add another voice to the Grandia 2 campaign.
This is definately something you should play, and as it's a dreamcast port, it's not too shabby in the old graphics department.
Great story, great gameplay, great fun.

you can pick up the pc version of grandia 2 for less than a fiver.Cant name the site as its comp but think of a large river in south america ;) Ive got the dreamcast version and its a great game if you like ff type games.

We're not too bad thanks mate.

Nope i hadn't considered that tbh, really liked the idea of the reviews i read before it came out and then forgot about it. The whole FF thing might be a bit misleading actually, i played it a bit more last night and think i'd like the combat to be a bit more involved.
