Hey guys,

I've grown tired of most of the games i own now and thought i would go in to town this afternoon and pick up something new to sink my teeth in to, I'm looking for something like morrowind//thief so if anyone is able to give me some ideas and suggestions it would be much appreciated :D

Thanks
M,

If you havn't already, give Oblivion or Assassins Creed a try. I havn't played Morrowind so i'm not sure how it compares to oblivion, but if you enjoyed the former you'll most likely enjoy the latter.

Got both of them m8ty, Oblivion + Shivering Isles is awesome but it didn't have the same feel as Morrowind/Tribunal/BloodMoon

Wasn't really a big fan of Assassins Creed (it came free with my GFX-Card), i found the control system very hard to get to grips with and personally preferred it on the Xbox (might be more fun using a gaming pad).

Thanks for the reply though :)
M,

I've also heard good things about The Witcher, but if you've tried that aswell then it might be worth listing games you havn't played :P

Is it the setting that interests you or more the free-roam rpg style in general?

I haven't tried the Witcher or Kings bounty so will have a look at them on YouTube and see what i think, it really is hard work finding a good game to get for the PC these days and Diablo III seems a world away atm

M,

I recently picked up a copy of The Witcher Enhanced Edition after a recommendation from a friend, and I would definitely recommend it.

It's a great example of an adult-themed (plenty of 'colourful' language) offline RPG, and is well worth a go.

I've had a look at a few videos on You Tube for it but most are just cinematics or boss fights, aside from that what does the game actually play like? Is it an open RPG where you can explore and build on your character while doing side quests and just general exploring or it it a heavily scripted game with levels and a constant push towards one goal?

M,

I've not finished the game yet, but so far it seems quite scripted and story-driven, it is possible to go off exploring the map (however there are loading screens), and there are quite a few sidequests you can pick up, but they all seem to have some relation to the main story, and you get the feeling you are always progressing towards your main goal.

There's quite a bit of scope for building your character, with different sword 'styles' that change your moves in combat, along with magic 'signs' and stat points to assign.

One complaint I would have is that there are still quite a few missions which follow the same basic outline of "Start at point A, go to B, return to A for reward", but i'd still recommend it.

Thanks for your reply Ever,

I'm not really a big fan of RPG's that are mainly driven to a main quest only style of play so i think it might not be for me, maybe i should just give morrowind another run through and wait to see whats due out over the next few weeks,

....I could always install world of warcraft again......

M,

Not suggesting this perhaps for an rpg lover but I know what people mean about some of the disappointments with some of the newer stuff out there. I can honestly say I've had a more 'consistent and enjoyable' gaming experience with playing the Quake 2 mission packs compared with some of the newer titles. Playing it at the moment, thought it would be a bit mundane and would stop after half an hour, a week later I'm still working my way through the levels. For all these modern graphical displays and newer technology I sometimes think that despite the effort put in, something vital is lost in transit.

Ended up getting DoW-II while shopping with the wife in Tesco's, was only £25 and should see me over the next few weeks until something else takes my fancie,

What do you guys think of DoW-II?
