Looking for a new gaming mouse

I've currently got a Razer Lachesis but I find the scroll wheel could do with being a bit further forward because my middle finger feels like it's going numb when I use the wheel a lot! I haven't got massive hands but have got quite long fingers... can someone recommend something that would be more comfortable?

I'm looking at the Roccat Kone XTD 8200 but am not sure how it compares size wise to the Lachesis.

Recommendations appreciated!

Difficult really. Mice are relatively subjective as to what feels comfortable. If you can check out your local stores, then you can test a few that will give you a better idea of what you'll be looking for.

If you do a lot of scrolling some mice (like the G500) have options for frictionless scroll wheels. I found it a bit gimmicky, but some people find use for it.

And personally, I'd stay away from Roccat.

My mouse at work (some unknown brand thing I got given to avoid RSI) has the scroll wheel by where the thumb rests. I actually think this is a much better design. Maybe a RAT/Cyborg would be a better idea then? Does the MMO version have the sniper button as well? I don't really play MMOs but would like the extra buttons.

I hate using claw grip like I have to with the Lachesis, any form of tension in my hand is not good (if I've been playing piano for a few hours then I'll generally avoid gaming because I can't relax my right hand with my current mouse).

I could pop along to a store but generally I don't see the higher end gaming mice in stores. :(

As someone else has said stay away from roccat.

Had a few of their products not work at all straight out of the box and the other one break down after a few days.

G400 is cheap and cheerful.

Cheers chaps... I'd really appreciate any comments about the Saiteks (RAT7/MMO). The customisation options and the side wheel look like they fit the bill. Is the MMO version really worth it or is it button overload?

Do you like that the lachesis is ambidextrous?

Look at the razer taipan, looks like a quality mouse.

It wasn't a consideration tbh. I find the Razers are not a great fit for my hand. Anyways, I've just bitten the bullet and ordered the RAT 7. I'll post feedback when I've had it for a few days :)

Well, my headshot kills have more than doubled with the RAT 7!!!

The only criticisms I have are that the precision aim button could have been where the little nut is, below the two buttons, rather than so forward. Also it would have been nice to be able to bring the thumb rest a few more mm backwards than the maximum.

It's taking a bit of getting used to but I love the way that there's hardly any effort needed at all to L/R click. The thumb wheel is great for browsing etc as well.

Might get myself the MMO one further down the line. :)

Decided I wanted the MMO version in the end. The precision aim button is in a more sensible place there and the extra buttons will help.

Thumbs up to OCuK for raising an RMA so quickly. :D

I love the fit of the rat mice but all I ever hear about is people rma'ing them.

Friend got one ( a 7) without letting me know and few months down the line its sensor was sketchy about what and when it would track.

Yeah, Don't do it. If your going MMO go for the new Razer Naga (Custom side etc) But the RAT mice come across as great because of their look and customisation. Unfortunately when you come to use it for a few months its going to be falling apart and your left/right click buttons won't be working anymore :D

Cool. I'm a bit weary about the Cyborgs quality though. As long as you treat it right, it shouldn't be a problem :)

Gamers and gimmicky peripherals don't go well together. My RAT was falling apart within months because of their lack of endurance.

Have you seen their new keyboard? Gimmicky crap written all over it. At least Razer has the courtesy to give you plastic crap that works for years.

I've had various issues with Razer mice in the past to be honest so I'm not that convinced about them either!

I'll see how I get on but to be honest the RAT series seem well built enough. Metal chassis and all that underneath. It's worth a punt and there's always RMA if it breaks. :)

The MMO has it right regarding the location of the precision button IMO. The 7 is a bit too far forward and you can feel the tension created in your hand using it while zooming with RMB. I'm sure I'll post again about it in a few months with comments/complaints/praise. ;)

Love the RAT mouse I have, feels great, I have the RAT 3 so might upgrade to a higher version of it in the near future!

Yeah I must say I find it to be a great mouse so far, but it is a bit strange to get used to. I'm upgrading to the MMO purely because I feel like that button should be where the nut is, not forward of the two side buttons. :)

If you get it set up right it's easy to use the side buttons with a rocking motion of the thumb which is pretty nice.
