Hello, i've been looking for a new graphics card for a few months now but can't decide, i don't have a lot to spend but i'm looking for something relativly cheap but gives good performance, My current system is as follows:
PSU: EZcool 800W
Motherboard: Gigabyte 75OFXTA-UD5
CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 2.6GHz
RAM: Crucial DDR3 2GB X2, Kingstone DDR3 1GB X2
Graphics card: Nvidia GTX 260 896MB
Any suggestions?

I am looking for a new CPU but i'll get to that later. thanks for the advice mate, also what brand would be best for cost/performace wise?

Look to upgrade your cpu and mobo first, but if still buying then I wouldn't look at anything higher than a 6850 (if that tbh).

I don't think the 7850 is overkill for that system. Most games are GPU limited and I think the HD 7850 for that system will not see much bottleneck.

Well, he could drop in the 7850 and see how it fares I suppose, seeing as he'll be upgrading the main part of the rig later. He may well find improved frame rates with it for now in some games, though when he adds a better cpu further down the line the fps will shoot through the roof - it'll seem like a different gpu altogether.

i'm getting a 7850 for my old rig too, Q6600 2.4ghz, not really worth putting anything more in it, im sure it will be capped by the cpu

Oc the cpu the Q6600 are great chips, had mine clocked @ 3.4 with no problems on air.
Post your motherboard im sure some one can help out if you get stuck.

+1

Having a Q6600 and not overclocking it is practically a sin ;)

That chip can do some major overclock if you know what you are doing.
