Looking for a new Heatsink (Cpu)

Hey guys.

So it's been about 4-5 years since i got this heatsink, it wasnt the best available, something i got to get above the packaged heatsink with my i7 2600k, however i want to start overclocking, and atm under full load my temps hit 72-80 depending on what game, and idles around 40 during hot days.

I've never had this cause problems, but i want to OC to get that little bit more in games that demand from a CPU, hopefully to atleast 4-4.2GHZ.

I've been looking into http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-080-AK this looks like a good chocie, i believe it fits my Socket of 1155 LGA, but not 100% sure, im not sure if the 1155 listed there is LGA too.

Also, i may consider a case upgrade, right now my case is struggling to fix everything in, and a side fan recently died on me so it doesnt help, my case is a Zalman Z9.

Ignore the bad cable management, i was cleaning it out, but this is the inside of my rig space wise.

It would be nice to get a new case, but right now i think i can get away with this, its just id like a nice shiny new case too to fit all my stuff, preferably a Matte black over piano, as piano scratches too easily and it'd match the rest of my desktop setup (monitor keyboard mouse etc) mainly because everythings a tight squeeze, the 680 barely fits D:

any recommendations would be fantastic, temps for everythig else inc GCard are always super nice so no need to worry on those :)

Many thanks as usual guys, Jack.

If you can afford it, I would opt for an AIO hyrdo cooler... something along these lines would do you great

It will save space in your rig and the rear fan you have at the moment i would put in the vacant top fan slot

ALSO, get some cable ties from poundland or wilkos and tidy them cables up while you're at it

Tah for the suggestions!
The cables are fine, as i said i was just cleaning it all out and retying everything back neatly as i was dusting it out.
I always worry about water cooling, kind of makes me worried, how safe is it compared to normal fan based coolers?

Aio Coolerw are sealed in the factories and rarely leak. I prefer them over big heatsinks which can strain your motherboard I.e. bending it when they are big and heavy

Have you tried it the other way around, I would expect it to be better if you had the heatsink fan blowing though the heatsink as you have case fans for the exhaust?

Air is cheaper, quieter, more dependable ad cooler as good or better then CLC. Not saying CLC are not dependable, but they are not as dependable as air. You never, ever in your wildest nightmares hear of an air cooler having a pump failure, or air bubble problem, or pump rattle. Air is virtually fool-proof. Only moving part is the fan.

As for size, CLC are very close to same size. The difference is fans and radiator are mounted to the case instead of on the CPU with big hoses from CPU to radiator.
So why spend more money to have a cooler that isn't any better cooling, has more chance of having problems, is noisier? Is it to be able to say. "I've got water cooling."

Those are all the reasons i wanted to avoid water cooling, got any recommendations.

Also i tried turning it around, it didnt help temps very much if atall really.

Deep Cool Lucifer £28.99
140X110X163mm, 140X136X168mm with fan.
How tall is your RAM?
Depending on RAM height, the Lucifer is about as good as it gets for lower priced coolers. ;)

Here beating H100 and 1c warmer than H100i, and much much quieter.

Tested out of a case meaning cooler intake air temps were most likely the same for both CLC and air coolers. ;)

My RAM is absoloutely tiny, Samsung Green, god tier RAM and it barely even pokes out, kind of looks like i dont even have RAM in there at times!

Thanks for the suggestions! Just gotta get researching on best ways to reinstall a cpu heatsink, get some alcohol rub and some new thermal paste.
