Looking for a new keyboard

Hey all.

I’m looking for a new keyboard and could use some advice.

I mainly play World of Warcraft but do play other games of all genres occasionally.

I play most games using a Logitech G13 gamepad and a Logitech G600 mouse so the keyboard doesn’t have to be anything special as it will mainly be used for typing.

With that said though I am more than happy to have disco lights, screens, bells, whistles or touch pads included :D

A few must’s and must not's:

Not mechanical

Must be backlit but not too bright, preferably with a choice of colours.

£125 approx price limit

Not essential but would be nice to have a USB port and mic/headphone ports on it.

I have a Boogie Bug Extreme XXL mouse mat that covers my entire desk with a black G600 Mouse and a black G13 gamepad on it so the keyboard must fit aesthetically.

As I use 2 Logitech items already naturally I’ve been looking at Logitech keyboards and obviously looked at the G19 & G510 any thoughts on these or would you suggest something else?

Many Thanks.

I'm using a Blackwidow ultimate right now and to be honest it's the worst keyboard I've had for a long time.

Too damned noisy, backlighting even on the lowest setting is way too bright. M keys too close to Ctrl, shift, tab e.t.c and to me the tactile key response feels horrible. I'm forever stopping to check if the key actually pressed - not because it didn't but just down to the feel of the keys.

Anyway no mechanical keyboards :D

Lovin my new, Microsoft SideWinder X4.

This. Got mine recently and I'm loving it - was a bit put off by the design at first but it grew on me quickly and I really like the palm rest. As an avid MMO player, I find the macro buttons incredibly useful as well and the software for recording is pretty versatile (allowing you to record pauses between keypresses and such). The backlighting is great for night-time gaming as well (3 adjustable levels, however it only has red lights), and the keyboard even allows up to 26 keypresses at once so I'm enjoying no longer having to be worried about how many buttons I have pressed down at the same time. All in all it's a great keyboard and I highly recommend it as it's well worth the £30 price tag.

Excellent thanks guys I'll take a look at the sidewinder.

If I'm honest I think I'm leaning more towards a Logitech as I already have the Logitech Gaming Software installed for the pad and mouse but that's probably me just being a bit OCD liking everything to match and look good together.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm not going to go with the Sidewinder.

It may seem like a small thing but only having one colour (Red) for the backlighting and my previous comment about liking everything matched means I need to keep looking.

Again I assume this is pointing me towards a Logitech board as both the G13 and G600 through the Logitech Gaming Software has a full spectrum of colours to choose from and naturally I want my keyboard to match the other two.

Any further recommendations?

Thanks guys.

There are several keyboards that will suit, but I am a Logitech fan! :D

So naturally I would say a logitech. If you dont need it for gaming, and key rollover is not an issue, save yourself some money and get the 510 :)

I never understood why Logitech discontinued the G15 v1. It has to be the best gaming keyboard ever made!! (imo anyway :p )

I find it hard to recommend anything Razer produce to be honest as every product I have bought from them has been faulty :(

Other options could be the Steel Series Merc Stealth, Roccat Isku, Saitek Cyborg V7 (but it has limited colour options for the LED's) and finally the Thermaltake TT-esports challenger ultimate.

Other than that, most manufacturers that OCUK supply are going mechanical now.

Why are you against mechanical btw?

Cheers

Buff

From my previous post:

Obviously that only based on the Blackwidow ultimate but if that's an indicator of other mechanical boards I'll stick with the normal ones.

I use the logitech G15 mate and completely agree, best keyboard ive ever used.

Doing a price check of both the G510 and G19 I've found a G19 at a very reasonable price £89.99 which I think is pretty good.

So I think I may go for one of those.

Thanks everyone for their help.
