Looking for a new monitor

I am currently looking to get a new monitor that will allow me to use my PS3 in 3D as well as the possibility of upgrading my PC for a 3D setup using ATI or nVidia.

Currently using a 22" 1680x1050 so I am quite eager to get a higher resolution monitor to get more out of my system and looking towards the 3D options to allow me to get that little bit extra out of it with the PS3.

Is this actually possible with any monitors currently available without paying more than say £350? If not possible at 350, how much would I be looking at to make this happen?

Any help/suggestions appreciated!

Hi there,

If you want to run PS3 3D then you will be looking for a HDMI 1.4 capable 120Hz monitor with built-in shutter glasses syncing (or uses the passive technology). The standard 120Hz monitors (shown here) that use dual-link DVI will will not work with the PS3 in 3D.

I would not suggest using the passive technology as the vertical resolution seen by each eye is halved in 3D (so each eye would only see 1920x540), while with shutter glasses you can see the full resolution.

There aren't currently many 120Hz HMDI 1.4 monitors availbale in the UK yet - but they do seem to be coming. The 27in Acer HN274HBMIIID seems to be available now - but it costs almost £500.

The Acer HS244HQ has been announced which is a 23.6in 1080p 120Hz HDMI 1.4 monitor with similar features to the 27in but should appear at a lower price. However, it doesn't seem to be available in the UK yet.

Samsung are also about to release some new 3D monitors, but again they are not yet available to buy.

Thanks for the input.

I was looking at the HS244HQ just before the new year, so had kind of hoped that there would be a good 24" option by now. Looks like I'll just have to wait another few weeks to see what happens.
