Looking for a new mouse

I had a browse through here and saw a few other open threads but I didn't want to hijack someone else's so here goes.

Sadly my trust old MS Explorer 3 is on it's way out (starting to double click on both the left and right mouse buttons) so feel like treating myself to a new present for the start of the year.

Wasn't going to ask as I was going to buy a Deathadder with out any thought, especially seeing as OcUK do a great deal on them but a friend of mine put some ideas in my head.

He told me to forget about getting an optical mouse and I should get a laser one. He's got a R.A.T. 7 and sears by it. Having had a quick play it feels like a very expensive toy but he said it's something you get used to.

Although I did like the idea of the precision aim button I do feel like it's a cheap gimmick that wont get much use. Plus I'm not the biggest fan of Mad Kats / Saitec gear as it's usually overpriced junk but he keeps telling me it's the best mouse he's used.

So I'm in 2 minds regards to which mouse. To be honest I'll probably ignore his advice as it felt very weird in my hand and I have never heard a bad word about a Deathadder.

Other than that if I was looking for a laser mouse I'd probably plump for a Logitech G9x.

So that's what I'm looking at;

Deathadder
R.A.T. 7
G9x

Any advice as to what's the best mouse would be much appricated.

Cheers, Doug.

I forgot about the MX518. Looks such a nice fit in the hand. And at just over £25 cant go wrong. Plus they're in stock unlike the Deathadder.

Have you used both? If you have it's obvious which is the one to get :p

no havent used the Deathadder tbh, but it looks similar to the Rachesis which I have and whiilst it was OK (liked it at the time) in hindsight it wasnt worth the cash (£70 iirc), plus as you say its out of stock and twice as much

I might pop out tomorrow and see if I can find a MX518 and see what it's like.

Only slight reservation I have is some reviews (here and elsewhere) have stated about the size, seeing as I have less than average sized palms but long fingers. Something lower profile is more comfortable.

Good idea, its always best to try before you buy if you can, thougn I doubt aforementioned (you may want to delete competitors name) would stock such good quality produce, youre right though that comfort is main thing, good luck

The deathadder is the first proper mouse I ever used and it made a ton of difference especially in fps games. It is very comfortable to use for extended periods of time and the thumb buttons are perfectly positioned.

Its also good to point out that Razer do 2 year warranty on all corded gaming mice. I had a deathadder a while ago and the thumb button broke, I was able to return it to the place I bought for a credit note (as the deathadder was discontinued) and paid a couple extra bucks for the new re-spawn version.

its also good to point out that logitech warranty is legendary, pratically a lifetime warranty. they will invariably offer money on a new product should yours become faulty outside of warranty. do a quick forum search on logitech customer service, some epic tales out there :p

mx518 for the win by the way. and OP, surprisingly that place you originally mentioned do stock them @ least online anyway, so you might get lucky on the high street. i was able to try one at a store in belfast. didn't buy from there tho as OcUK had them at a far better price

Well couldn't find a mx518 but did find a g500 which looks the same shape and size. Felt good in the hand but the hump felt a little to far back to be comfortable after an hour or two.

Never mind though after looking at other posts on here I've plumped for a mx518 seeing as it's so hard to go wrong for the price. Thanks for the advice guys.
