I'm looking to buy a new printer for my Dad for Christmas.

I need something that's cheap on Ink and isn't going to cost a lot each time he needs to replace a ink cartridge.

I've seen the KODAK ESP 3250 All-in-One Printer but not sure what they are like but I've heard there cheap on ink.


Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Have a look at the Canon range, very good printers and compatible cartridges available anywhere at very reasonable prices.
As an example I use a Canonn IP3600 (I don't need anything flash) and a set of cartridges (5 in all) cost about £16.00, excellent performer and cheap to run.

I just bought my mum a Samsung colour laser printer which should be good for 1000 sheets. Whereas her current inkjet doesn't get close to 100 before it starts complaining it's running low on ink. Laser toner isn't cheap though. A colour toner pack costs around £100 but should last much longer than her current inkjet does.
 
For an occasional user I couldn't recommend an inkjet. My ip4000 has got some sort of problem I've probalby spent £20 on ink just cleanign the damn nozzles and it's still not as good as it was when I bought it.

Get a laser printer. Ink costs more upfront, but it lasts years. It comes with enough toner to last about 3000 pages - that's 6 reams of paper. I don't even think I've printed 500 sheets in about 6 years.
 
Canon been using the ip4300 with compatibles for just over two years no problems at all, can't remember the last time l cleaned the heads.

The iP4700 £70 > compatibles 4 sets about £30 and it gets good reviews.
 
Vote here for Canon. I've had two over the last 5 years or so and both been incredibly solid performers, and i've really put them through hell as well, and they've stood up. Ink isn't cheap, but that seems to be the case for any printer these days.
 
I always use epson printers as their compatibles are 2X photo color and 2x Black is just £10 at any comp show.
