I'm currently with VM had enough paying for the slow upload so moving over to no one end of October but I have just put my old

TP-Link SG1005D

It's not working and I need a new 5 port 2.5gb unmanaged switch there's just way too many to choose from got a budget of £120 looking at some of them so any help would be appreciated.

If I wanted to upgrade from 900/900 then I might as well just buy a 2.5gb port.

Though I may not need it because I only need 1 x 2.5gb port for 1 device the rest can can go through the 1gb switch.

You know I haven't even asked no one what router they actually provide, going to phone them now.

But what is the use case for greater than 900Mbps on a single machine?
The main benefit of having faster/wider connections is so that you can do more things at once. E.g. uploading or downloading at gigabit speed from a single machine, whilst still having bandwidth to spare for other devices on your network.

Depending on where you are downloading or uploading from/to, then most sites won't necessarily be able to keep up anyway.

Most routers just provide a 2.5Gb WAN port - not necessarily a 2.5Gb Lan port as well.

You can plug a 1 GbE client into a 2.5 GbE switch, unless it's complete trash it will just negotiate at 1 Gbps. I saw one for about £20, you could just replace your existing 1 GbE switch with one, and plug one port into your routers 2.5 GbE port.

@ Armageus

The 2.5gb port is for my main PC where I upload huge video files to a dedicated server hence me wanting to change from VMs poor upload speed to cityfibre.

Like I said I probably won't need a 2.5gb switch when I can just plug my PC into the 2.5gb port on the router or buy a better router and use the switch for the other 3 devices connected downstairs.

Nope no rush had a look just too many to pick from.

Might try one from zyxel for a change.
I have the Zyxel MG-105 5-Port Unmanaged Desktop 2.5-Gigabit Switch. Bought it as the APs and Router are all 2.5Gb ports so just wanted to keep the LAN kit all the same. Totally don't need it but the price isn't expensive so why not do it. :)

2.5Gb Chinese unmanaged switches are my default floor switch now, I take fibre from the core switch and drop it to each floor, then use the Chinese switch to break it out to copper at 2.5Gb and allow for a further 10Gb fibre feed if required. Honestly, they haven't skipped a beat and at this stage are for nothing, they're only slightly more than China delivered by a UK source same/next day.

Most of the new WiFi 7 routers have 2.5Gbe ports. Personally i have seen 1.6Gb regularly downloading from Steam. I also use mine for faster transfers between my server and desktop
