I've been out of it for a while with regards to buying hardware but I "think" I've specced up the right kit...

I currently have a P 2.4, 1GB ram with a 6800GT, would I notice a big increase with the spec below? Comments welcomed.

Also should I have Win XP or Vista??

XClio 6030 PLUS Black Midi Tower Gaming Case ,
OCZ StealthXStream 500w
Gigabyte GA-N650SLI-DS4 S775
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Reaper
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Socket 775 4MB Cache Retail Boxed
Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme , OEM , 7.1 channel , PCI
XFX GeForce 8600 GT Fatal1ty 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

Cheers for any advice.

You will defiantly notice an improvement!

I would recommend getting a lower priced processor and over clocking it. This was you will save money to get a 8800gt.

The choice between xp and vista is a personal one, i have stayed with xp as i find it quicker and simpler. SP1 has just come out for vista so that is a good reason to get vista.

Keep looking around the forums, and you should find all the info you need. You will probably end up saving money and getting a better system!!

i'd swap the processor for the wolfdale 8200 and the motherboard for the Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L Intel P31.

with the money saved from the processor/mobo change, switch the 8600gt with the OcUK ATI Radeon HD 3850 Pro 256MB.

personally i'd stick with xp for the time being.

No changing pins anymore ;) its all done in bios. There are softwares that you can use for oc but its better in bios. If you have a look in CPU section you'll find all the info you need to oc.
You should get away with e2xxx cpu depends what you gonna use your pc for...
As for XP v Vista i think its personal. Check if the programs that you use run on wista without any issues first of all.

The Coolermaster Centurion 534, the CM-690 Dominator and the Lian Li PC7 PLUS II are much, much better looking and performing cases.

Massive side fans that don't have dust filters simply coat your PC in, of course, dust.

Plus, if you have some 30cm/25cm side intake fan and only 1x 120mm exhaust, it results in a completely disproportionate airflow system whereby the exhaust cannot push out the massive amount of intaked air fast enough. Most top end cases with large side fans have exhaust roof fans to aid airflow.
