A friend of mine is caring for a family member with alzheimer's and she has had a few occasions recently where the person has just wandered off causing my friend to go into a blind panic trying to find her!

I was wondering whether anyone could recommend some sort of personal GPS tracker to put in her bag that she could track using an app or Google maps??

Thanks...

Mate just up the v-core a bit, make sure the overclock on her is stable, she's got a good psu installed in her and every so often give her a virus and malware scan and you should be good to go.
Won't need to worry about Alzheimer's ever again.

On a serious note does she have a carer at all?

Worst "I want to track my wife/gf" excuse ever ;)

Naaaaa, I'm pretty sure she is having an affair anyway! Gives me more time on the PS4!! :p

I suppose if they have a phone on them, wouldn't it be easy to track the person that way?

This was my first though but she doesn't always have it with her whereas she takes her bag/purse everywhere!

There seems to be lots of options on the Alzheimer's society website:

Thanks, I never thought to even look on their website! I'll take a look!

My grandad suffers, he use to do this all the time. Only problem with it is they have to remember to take the bag/phone/ whatever has the gps.

Came a point where my grandad would take the TV remote and that's it.

We had an 'alarm' system fitted. Gave him a 'curfew' between 9pm - 6am. If the front door opened they would ring grandads home. If no answer then one of us (usually my mum) would get a call. Full panic mode ensued.

It's a careful balance between his independance and his care.

Apparently not too much of an issue as she always picks her bag up when she goes anywhere!

Don't suppose it could be as simple as a phone with cerebrus or iPhones findmyi?

No, unfortunately she doesn't have a phone any more!

The link above on the Alzheimer's website all seem to be US based options and I can't see anything on the UK site!?!?

All I really need is a smallish unit that doesn't require too much charging at a reasonable cost!

Resurrecting my own thread after almost 3 years, but for a different reason!

Going to Florida in a months time and would like to have some sort of tracker for the kids (4 & 6) just in case they manage to wander off in one of the parks!

I've been looking at various options but obviously all of the "proper" GPS systems with real-time tracking require some sort of ongoing monthly subscription!

Has anyone got any experience of the bluetooth based systems? (I know they only have a limited range but something that alerts us part a certain distance might be worth considering?)

Thanks for any suggestions!

Most of the parks operate a lost-child system where you can have a strap put on the childs wrist with your contact details I think. Most 4yr olds would be pretty sensible in that environment anyway

Yeah I know they have the wrist straps etc and don't get me wrong I'm not expecting to let either of my kids out of my sight - I just wanted something in the way of a backup in case we get separated!

I've been looking at the Smart Tag trackers or the Tile trackers - both seem to be Bluetooth based rather than GPS but the more I think about it, I like the idea of getting an alert if the kids wander more than a certain distance from us with some sort of directional indication as to which way to go and find them!
