Our old Panasonic DVD/HDD combo has finally bitten the dust, was 6 years old and trooper as used quite heavily.

Newer Panasonic models for £230 is the DMR-PWT530 reviews look ok, and the only competition seems to come from Samsung.

Am I missing something massively? Would a Humax (or other box) and a separate Blu-Ray player be better? We currently have a samsung smart tv which we use iplayer and things on, so don't need any extra smart functionality.

Only recording freeview, no sky or anything else.

Would prefer one box but if two is much cheaper we can compromise.

Ive got my dad a panny dvd / hdd and when that failed a br / hdd player ... can't fault them tbh . My only dripe with the br version I got my dad , was that it didn't write from hdd to disc .... but that was my fault for no doing the research .... but tbh he wouldn't use it anyway.

the main advantage , would be if you got a problem with either side. the combo would need to be sent for repair and you you lose usage of the everything ... seperates , you can just get another .

also .. 1 box = less space and one less power lead ..... personally i'd go combo ... but I don't use hdd , I just use catchup :)

We've got the DMR-PWT530 - much better than the LG DVD/HD box it replaced (that needed 5 to 10 minutes after powering on to work properly).

The Panasonic has been great so far as a PVR, though the only nag is that it seems very keen to report new channels (even if you only re-tuned it the day before)

You can turn off automatic updates in the menu ..

And up scan for new channels when you want.
