Looking for a quick site critique..

I've been asked to redesign my friend's photography business website, I wondered if you could cast an eye over it and see how it looks so far.

I've started from scratch, but to begin with I've just tried to breathe a bit of life into the existing format before we start expanding beyond the homepage.

the original sucks, i think the new site needs more colour, the contrast of the current colours does wierd things to my eyes. Also the logo could be glammed up abit.
 
it's better

but I don't like the masthead ... the reflection makes it look disjointed. remove it. and perhaps put the "eclipse" in a different colour.
 
An improvement.

Personnally i don't like the " fading elipse with the horse pic ".

Something a bit sharper maybe.
 
About the logo - I didn't create that, I saved it from the existing site (resized it down :eek: and got what you see here).

I'm not best pleased about the masthead either, any suggestions on how to improve it?

Just some nice typography would look a lot better.

I can't just go changing the company's logo though! It's already on business cards, posters, signs etc - the company has been around a few years, just the website needs sorting.
 
Old site is horrible :p, new site appears down at the moment?

If you don't already have e-commerce, check out www.prodarkroom.com for an easy alternative to building your own :).
