Looking for a quiet, fast PCI-E (pref. Nvidia)

I wish this were true, 7900GTX in SLI is not enough for 2560x1600 and with Quad SLI being somewhat iffy, this is why I'm upgrading to 2 SLI 8800GTX's. The 8800 is going to be a very quick DX9 card, ignore the fact that its DX10 compliant, its really not relevant. At the very least I'd wait till the 8th to make your decision, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I've seen G80 benchmarks, if Anand-techs review is anything to go by I think someone said a GX2 beats it in a test.

Its a faster DX9 card, fine. Is it worth 500 quid. No. 400 then possibly...

Ill just wait for R600, plus a month get a card for 350 odd quid and kick your cards now..

Doesn't the current Vista DL RC2 have DX10 in it?

Eitherway DX10 is pointless addition.

All they are buying into is a expensive graphics card to boost DX9, which to be perfectly honest a X1900XTX does up to 1600x1200 and SLI up to 30inch monitors.

The DX10 brigade can shout all they want, its still BS.

Bugs, slowness, not enough power.. we haven't got ONE idea how it performs in DX10. So its no reason to buy a expensive gfx card to pander to nvidias wants.

what makes more sense dx10 or shader model 3.0? :p

Something worth considering is that to all intents and purposes, SLI'ing 7950's just doesn't work, the implementation of Quad SLI is poor and still needs major work. With the 8800 you do have the option of doubling up, for me that's the clincher.

LoadsaMoney your posts are mindless, repetitive and in the end you actually contradicted yourself. wtf?

Stop spamming threads with that kind of nonsense that will only confuse people that don't know much about the topic. Buying a DX9 card makes perfect sense. You get slightly less performance for half (or less) the price. DX10 Vista and games won't even be here til Jan/Feb. By then the first lot of DX10 cards will hopefully have dropped in price. I plan on waiting atleast 6 months or a year before even considering upgrading from my 7600GT. At that time I will pay half what you will pay now for the same card and I won't have noticed much difference between now and then.

I hate people that don't understand the value of money. I hope to god you're not one of those sickening kids that get all the money they want from their parents.

You're missing the point LoadsaMoney is making, he doesn't actually believe what he's saying.

He's only saying it so that the "new gen brigade," as he calls them, don't start an argument in every thread.

.

Look,

You think its worth spending £350 on a DX9 GX2 when the 8800 GTS will be around this price?

Your Kidding right?

You keep justifying your 7600 GT.

I have had one its a 128bit card that cannot cut through games at high resolutions.

Thats why it cost 100 quid.

Stop knocking and insulting people in threads who are after buying a 8800 series card. When they clearly know more than you on the subject.

You must really hate yourself then. Why waste money on a mighty 7600 GT, to play at the dizzyingly high resolution of 1280 x 1024, when you can drop to 800 x 600 and buy a 6200 turbo, saving a fortune in the process.

Short on firewood, were we?

Not everyone plays at 1600x res easyrider. Not everyone wants to spend £350 on a dx9 - more like £100-200 (it would seem judging from topics). Plus people don't have the psu's that can take the power of the new dx10 cards.

Get the 7900 GTO, it is silent im running it now and the side of my case is off, don't hear anything to be honest, just the silent whisper of the fans, seriously though its silent and the 7900 GTO is very silent. Its fast and all my games are maxed out.

wow i got a 7900gs all my games are maxed out ,breakout pacman and space invaders(you just would`nt belive it but the space ship that goes across the top EVEN has windows in,yer it has) ;)

I think regulars will be aware of that, the trouble is that people who pop in here genuinely seeking advice may be mislead by his hilarious sarcasm.

Moving back on topic, I wouldn't bother with that 7900GS at £170, for that kind of money you can get the 7900GTO which is a vastly superior card.

Thanks to everyone who suggested this card - I have ordered this as part of my new rig, it looks ideal and is a decent price for the speed. Plus it is silent, a major factor in my new rig.

To everyone else who turned this innocent buyers question thread into an opinion-infesed rant fest - please take a deep breath and step outside not only the graphics card forum but also your bedroom!

Happens in every thread as of late, people are getting exciteable over G80 and are looking for a fight. Heck, I was one of them, thank god I took a step back and realised how retarded we were being before I got it too bad. :o

Good luck with your card, it's a cracker. :D

You should be able to chuck eyecandy at it in all the latest games without it so much as breaking a sweat. :)

just bought myself a 7900GTO as part of an upgrade, card is a bargain price and the performance is brilliant, it's also very quiet....if fact i cant even hear it most the time.
