Looking for a reasonably inexpensive OCR App.

To be fair OCR isn't overly necessary these days.... as to what to use it really depends on what you want to ocr.

MS OneNote can/could do OCR
PowerToys is getting an OCR app soon
Google Docs can do OCR (online)
Acrobat PRO can do OCR, actually most 'pro' pdf software should be able to ocr pdf's.

There's also text grab but I haven't tried it, it's the basis for the upcoming powertoys ocr app (strange considering powertoys is free...)

As I wrote above, $Text looks interesting. It did indeed untill I found it also costs and I'm not willing to pay so I'll stick with an alternative method.
Seriously it's not even 9 QUID, you can't get much more reasonably priced (your words in your original post) than that.... but if you really must cheap out you can also find it for free, but I really think the dev should get some financial return for their time and investment in the project.

Please explain.

Your quite right and I will have a go at it. My first test will be to scan the 28 pages of bibliography the writer of a book on the British Labour Party shown not as separate titles but running together and in something like 6 point so its practically unreadable. My plan was to scan the pages copy them to a Word page and simply enlarge them but I will see if $Text is more effective so many thanks.

Well if you'd have actually said what you wanted to scan in the first post....

You need individual pages and an adf scanner to make that easier, then you need to buy a more expensive ocr program than can handle multiple pages... I'd suggest a 1 month acrobat pro subscription.

My life is full of regrets!
