Hi there havent been here in a while

my old build which is used by the oh needs a cpu cooler rough specs are

msi 870-c45 board
amd phenom ii x4 955 overclocked to 3.6
2x 4gb mushkin blackline 996995
master cooler cpu cooler not sure of model will attach pics
case zalman i3 edge with front plastic removed to actually give it air flow

Was gonna order the cooler master hyper 212 evo but my case only supports 156mm high cooler where the evo is 159mm high

ive also looked at the deepcool gammaxx 400 which is close to limited height of 156mm coming in at 154mm and not sure if memory height might be issue

any thoughts on this cooler or any recommendations ideally good but under £30

Few pics and yes its old lol

If it's that close, I'd be tempted to physically measure the case. A few mm is within safe margins that some case manufacturers might state below the actual distance.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £23.99 (includes shipping: £0.00)

You'll be extremely hard pressed to do better without spending around the £50 range, I've used these myself and they're fantastic bits of kit.

Hold in mind the version linked comes with an extra 140mm fan.

Do measure up, but I don't think you'll have any problems with RAM clearance. Not sure about case dimensions, the smallest I've used it in is a Corsair 200R. Honestly, you could be better off grabbing the Brocken 2 and spending another £20-30 on a new case. lol

Failing that there's always this:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £19.99 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Actually performs a tad better than the Hyper 212 and it's cheap/on the smaller side.

ok ill answer each reply and thanks

Ive measured the case and from top of cpu is 160mm so the stated 156mm quoted on zalmans site is correct although the box states 175mm and web sites differ overclockers have there description at 175mm max.

Scythe Mugen 5 is 154.5mm and good RAM clearance.

Thanks will look into the coolers.

Why not take the opportunity to replace the case?

dont think the case needs changing at the moment
setup is 3 x 120mm front intakes 1 x 120 rear exhaust and 1 x 120 top exhaust, did have 2 to balance it out but actually made it a couple of degrees warmer

on idle temps with ambient temperature of 19°c, CPU temp 27°c and motherboard temp 26°c and cores temp are 31°c,

after running prime95 torturetest my motherboard temp rises by only 1 or 2 degrees but after about 3-4 minutes my cpu 52°c and cores are hitting 55°c and this is where i stop the test

so i presume from this my airflow is good but my cpu cooler isnt handling it or am i totally wrong ..

Can't help but notice how high the CPU socket is.

Are any of the tower coolers going to fit without catching the top fans/case?

Just measured from the centre of my installed cpu fan to exhuast top fan is 85mm so anything with a width of 170 would touch the fan

Cheers Marc
